Journal ArticleDOI

In situ immobilization of metals in contaminated or naturally metal-rich soils.

B.R. Singh, +1 more
TL;DR: Among the materials (Fe and Mn oxides and aluminosilicates) having high binding capacity for metals, the immobilizing capacity of birnessite (MnO2) was higher than that of other materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metal immobilization in soils using synthetic zeolites.

TL;DR: This study selected the most effective zeolite in cadmium and zinc binding out of six synthetic zeolites, which appeared to have the highest binding capacity between pH 5 and 6.5 and was stable above pH 5.5.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solid-solution partitioning of organic matter in soils as influenced by an increase in pH or Ca concentration.

TL;DR: Comparison of these predictions with speciation calculations in solution showed a good correlation, indicating that a combination of one batch experiment and the presented calculation procedure can provide good estimations of DOC concentrations after addition of chemicals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cadmium uptake by earthworms as related to the availability in the soil and the intestine

TL;DR: The differences in metal uptake between earthworms in lime- and MnO2-treated soils are more likely to reflect the predominance of pH-independent intestinal uptake of Cd, which might be attributed to competition of protons and Cd at the surface of the earthwororm body.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measuring and Modeling Zinc and Cadmium Binding by Humic Acid

TL;DR: This study shows that free Cd concentrations as measured by the Donnan membrane technique agreed well with Cd ISE measurements, and it is shown that the Don nan membrane technique could be used at high pH.
