Degradation of permafrost in the Xing'anling Mountains, northeastern China

TL;DR: In this paper, the southern limit of permafrost (SLP) was empirically correlated to the −1 to 0°C isotherms of mean annual air temperature (MAAT) in the western part of the Da Xing'anling Mountains, to about 0.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in permafrost environments along the Qinghai–Tibet engineering corridor induced by anthropogenic activities and climate warming

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a noninterference plan and acceleration in the enactment and enforcement of environmental protection (laws, regulations and stipulations) based on an extensive and thorough understanding and practical rehabilitation techniques for disturbed or damaged permafrost environments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recent changes in the active layer thickness across the northern hemisphere

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the spatiotemporal variations in the active layer thickness (ALT) across the northern hemisphere during 1990-2015 and found that the ALT exhibits substantial spatial variations across the Northern Hemisphere, ranging from approximately 30 cm in the arctic and subarctic regions to greater than 10m in the mountainous permafrost regions at mid-latitudes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermal regime of warm-dry permafrost in relation to ground surface temperature in the Source Areas of the Yangtze and Yellow rivers on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, SW China

TL;DR: The thermal regime of warm-dry permafrost in the SAYYR was systematically analyzed based on extensive data collected during 2010-2016 of air temperature, ground surface temperature (GST) and ground temperature across a range of areas with contrasting land-surface characteristics and it is concluded that the accurate mapping ofpermafrost on the rugged elevational QTP could be potentially obtained by correlating the parameters of GST, thermal offset, and temperature gradient in the shallow permaf frost.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spatiotemporal variations of climate warming in northern Northeast China as indicated by freezing and thawing indices

TL;DR: Based on the daily ground surface and air temperatures at 21 selected stations in NNE China, the Mann-Kendall test and Sen's slope estimate were used to detect changes in the mean annual ground surface temperature (MAGST), mean annual air temperature (MAAT), annual GFI, annual air freezing index (GFI), annual AFI (−13.4), and annual GTI (−9.6), respectively, for the period between 1972 and 2005 as discussed by the authors.
