Journal ArticleDOI
Comprehensive geriatric care for patients with hip fractures: a prospective, randomised, controlled trial
Anders Prestmo,Gunhild Hagen,Olav Sletvold,Jorunn L. Helbostad,Pernille Thingstad,Kristin Taraldsen,Stian Lydersen,Vidar Halsteinli,Vidar Halsteinli,Turi Saltnes,Sarah E Lamb,Lars Gunnar Johnsen,Ingvild Saltvedt +12 more
TL;DR: Immediate admission of patients aged 70 years or more with a hip fracture to comprehensive geriatric care in a dedicated ward improved mobility at 4 months, compared with the usual orthopaedic care, and the treatment of older patients with hip fractures should be organised as orthogeriatric care.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of the SF6D, the EQ5D, and the oswestry disability index in patients with chronic low back pain and degenerative disc disease.
Lars Gunnar Johnsen,Christian Hellum,Øystein P. Nygaard,Kjersti Storheim,Kjersti Storheim,Jens Ivar Brox,Ivar Rossvoll,Gunnar Leivseth,Margreth Grotle +8 more
TL;DR: The difference in important measurement properties between EQ5D and SF6D is too large to consider them interchangeable, and the choice of index should be determined by the diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgery with disc prosthesis versus rehabilitation in patients with low back pain and degenerative disc: two year follow-up of randomised study
Christian Hellum,Lars Gunnar Johnsen,Kjersti Storheim,Øystein P. Nygaard,Jens Ivar Brox,Ivar Rossvoll,Magne Rø,Leiv Sandvik,Oliver Grundnes +8 more
TL;DR: Surgical intervention with disc prosthesis for chronic low back pain resulted in a significantly greater improvement in the Oswestry score compared with rehabilitation, but this improvement did not clearly exceed the prespecified minimally important clinical difference between groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Can we define success criteria for lumbar disc surgery? : estimates for a substantial amount of improvement in core outcome measures.
TL;DR: It is proposed that the criteria for success should be defined by those who report that they are “completely recovered” or “much better”, and the cutoffs for success can be used as benchmarks when comparing data from different surgical units.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hip fracture incidence in central norway: a followup study.
TL;DR: The lower incidence of hip fractures in subjects in rural areas persists, and there has been a dramatic increase in the proportion of trochanteric fractures.
