Rapid formation of large aggregates during the spring bloom of Kerguelen Island: observations and model comparisons
M.-P. Jouandet,George A. Jackson,Francois Carlotti,Marc Picheral,Lars Stemmann,Stéphane Blain,Stéphane Blain +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors made one vertical profile of particle size distributions (PSD; sizes ranging from 0.052 to several millimeters in equivalent spherical diameter) at pre-bloom stage and seven vertical profiles 3 weeks later over a 48-hour period at early bloom stage using the Underwater Vision Profiler during the Kerguelen Ocean and Plateau Compared Study cruise 2 (KEOPS2, October-November 2011).
Journal ArticleDOI
Cross-shelf variability in the Iberian Peninsula Upwelling System: Impact of a mesoscale filament
Vincent Rossi,Véronique Garçon,Joëlle Tassel,Jean-Baptiste Romagnan,Lars Stemmann,Frédéric Jourdin,Pascal Morin,Yves Morel +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a multidisciplinary survey in the Iberian upwelling during late summer 2007 was carried out, where the authors analyzed comparatively the cross-shore variability and offshore transport of planktonic communities within a mesoscale filament.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental and modeling evidence of appendicularian‐ciliate interactions
Fabien Lombard,Damien Eloire,Angélique Gobet,Lars Stemmann,John R. Dolan,Antoine Sciandra,Gabriel Gorsky +6 more
TL;DR: Appendicularians modify the size spectrum of the microbial food web both by removing small organisms and enhancing the growth of mid‐sized and large ciliates and this additional food supply could be essential in oligotrophic environments.
Diel variation in the vertical distribution of particulate matter (>0.15 mm) in the NW Mediterranean sea investigated with the Underwater Video Profiler : DYNAPROC Program
TL;DR: In this article, day/night variations in the size distribution of the particulate matter > 0.15 mm (PM) were studied in May 1995 during the DYNAPROC time-series cruise in the northwestern Mediterranean Sea.
Journal ArticleDOI
An initial carbon export assessment in the Mediterranean Sea based on drifting sediment traps and the Underwater Vision Profiler data sets
Simon Ramondenc,Goutx Madeleine,Fabien Lombard,Chiara Santinelli,Lars Stemmann,Gabriel Gorsky,Lionel Guidi,Lionel Guidi +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, particle size, POC export, and the contribution of microphytoplankton to the phytoplastocyte community structure, all decreased following the west to east net primary production gradient.
