Journal ArticleDOI

Dysrhythmias caused by histamine release in guinea pig and human hearts.

TL;DR: It is proposed that histamine release produced by drugs and surgical procedures may be an overlooked factor in fatal cardiac arrhythmias and experimental studies suggest that selective pharmacological methods can be developed to block the arrh rhythmogenic effects of histamine.
Journal Article

Comparison of ethanol and barbiturate physical dependence.

TL;DR: Ethanol produced more severe withdrawal than barbiturate when the level of chronic intoxication was comparable in the two groups, and thelevel of central nervous system depression during administration was an important factor influencing intensity ofbarbiturate withdrawal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ethanol Drug Interaction with Chlordiazepoxide and Pentobarbital

TL;DR: It was evident from the isobolographic plot that the interactions between ethanol and pentobarbital and ethanol and chlordiazepoxide were more than additive, and with increasing ethanol pretreatment the shift in dose-response curves for the loss-of-righting reflex was affected more than the shiftIn dose- response curves for lethality.
Journal ArticleDOI

The isolated human pectinate muscle: a reliable preparation of human cardiac tissue.

TL;DR: An anatomically and functionally intact preparation of isolated pectinate muscles from readily-available surgical specimens of human right atrial appendage is developed, which develops a stable and large force of contraction and hence is superior to strips cut from atrialappendage specimens.
