Water sorption behavior and gas barrier properties of cellulose whiskers and microfibrils films

TL;DR: Rod-like straight cellulose whiskers and long flexible entangled microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) were used to prepare cellulosic membranes as discussed by the authors, and it was observed that the diffusion of water is rather controlled by the surface than by the core, probably because of a barrier effect related to the presence of water at the surface during the sorption kinetics.

Removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions by filtration with a novel complexing membrane containing poly(ethyleneimine) in a poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel complexing membrane was used for the removal of heavy metal ions such as Pb, Cd, and Cu(II) from aqueous solutions, and the corresponding equilibrium constants were determined for the three metal ions, showing that the affinity order of the membrane is Pb>Cu>Cd.
