TL;DR: A detailed study of the simplest structure, a single quantum well coherently grown on a strain-free buffer layer, leads to a better understanding of the role of the built-in field, allows extraction of quantitative data, and underlines some differences between structures incorporating Zn or Mn.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of thermal annealing on thin CdTe/ZnTe single quantum wells was investigated and it was found that the interdiffusion strongly modifies the optical spectra.
Abstract: We report on the effect of thermal annealing on thin (001) CdTe/ZnTe single quantum wells. We found that the interdiffusion strongly modifies the optical spectra: (i) besides the expected blue shift, a strong reduction of the linewidth is observed in a first stage of annealing; we attribute this effect to a complete elimination of the larger islands present at the interface, (ii) in a second stage, ‘‘usual’’ interdiffusion occurs, with a slow rate in agreement with the diffusion coefficient extrapolated from reported self‐diffusion data at higher temperatures.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors employed the spatially selective incorporation of monoatomic isoelectronic planes of ZnTe as a perturbative probe of the exciton states in a mixed type CdTe/(Cd,Zn)Te superlattice.
