Journal ArticleDOI
The Nucleocapsid Protein of Coronaviruses Acts as a Viral Suppressor of RNA Silencing in Mammalian Cells
Lei Cui,Haiying Wang,Yanxi Ji,Jie Yang,Shan Xu,Xingyu Huang,Zidao Wang,Lei Qin,Po Tien,Xi Zhou,Deyin Guo,Yu Chen +11 more
TL;DR: This work identified a novel VSR from coronaviruses, a group of medically important mammalian viruses including Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus, and showed that the nucleocapsid protein (N protein) of coronviruses suppresses RNAi triggered by either short hairpin RNAs or small interfering RNAs in mammalian cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification and characterization of a ribose 2′-O-methyltransferase encoded by the ronivirus branch of Nidovirales.
Cong Zeng,Andong Wu,Yi Wang,Shan Xu,Yingke Tang,Xu Jin,Shilei Wang,Lei Qin,Ying Sun,Chengpeng Fan,Eric J. Snijder,Benjamin W. Neuman,Yu Chen,Tero Ahola,Deyin Guo +14 more
TL;DR: A 2′-O-methyltransferase encoded by ronivirus is identified that shows common and unique features in comparison with that of coronaviruses and can be targeted by MTase inhibitors, extending the current understanding of nidovirus RNA cap formation and methylation beyond the coronavirus family.
