Rise of diselenides: Recent advances in the synthesis of heteroarylselenides

An overview of the preparation and synthetic potentialities of functionalized organoselenium and organotellurium compounds is presented. Various methods to generate selenated or tellurated nucleophiles are described. Focusing on the more recent developments, in this Perspective reactions of selenium and tellurium nucleophiles with heterocycles (O-, N-, and S-containing) of different ring size (three, four, five, and six-membered) to access a variety of organo-chalcogen compounds, bearing different functional groups, are covered. Their application in organic synthesis and asymmetric catalysis is also reported, along with some novel methodologies derived thereof.

Ring opening reactions of heterocycles with selenium and tellurium nucleophiles

The site-selective copper-catalyzed three-component coupling reaction of electron-deficient heterocycles, Se powder and aryl iodides is disclosed. The established methodology provides an efficient and practical pathway to access 2-arylselenated heterocycles via copper-catalyzed double C–Se bond formation. This transformation features the use of elemental Se as the selenating reagent, a cost-effective catalytic system, and the late-stage selenation of bioactive compounds.

Silver‐Catalyzed One‐Pot Three‐Component Selective Synthesis of β‐Hydroxy Selenides

The copper-catalyzed decarboxylative selenation of aromatic carboxylic acids with diselenide is reported. This transformation tolerated a diverse set of functional groups on the substrates, including pentafluorobenzoic acid and heteroaromatic acids, delivering diaryl and methyl aryl selenides in good to excellent yields. Mechanistic studies indicated that the copper catalyst is essential in the activation of the Se-Se bond and the decarboxylation of aromatic acids. The utility of the products has been demonstrated in the facile synthesis of 10H-phenoselenazine and 11-methyldibenzo-(b,f)-1,4-selenazepine.

Cu-Catalyzed Radical Selenylation of Olefin: A Direct Access to Vinyl Selenides

The invention relates to the technical field of synthesis of organic compounds and particularly relates to a preparation method of a beta-hydroxyphenyl selenide compound. The preparation method comprises the step of with aryl boronic acid with a structure presented by a formula (I), elemental selenium and an ethylene oxide derivative presented by a formula (II) as the raw materials, and carrying out insertion reaction on elemental selenium in a reaction solvent under the common effect of a copper catalyst, silver salt and alkali, so as to obtain the beta-hydroxyphenyl selenide compound represented by a formula (III), wherein R1 and R2 are respectively independently selected from one of H, a benzene ring, a naphthalene ring, a heterocyclic ring, a substituted benzene ring, linear alkyl, branched chain, halogen, nitryl and a cyano group.
