Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of selected seaweed polysaccharides (phycocolloids) by vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR and FT-Raman)
TL;DR: With the combination of two spectroscopic techniques it is possible to identify the principal seaweed colloids in ground seaweed samples as in extracted material, and represents, as accurately as possible, the native composition of the phycocolloids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of FTIR, FT-Raman and 13C-NMR spectroscopy for identification of some seaweed phycocolloids.
TL;DR: The FTIR and FT-RAMAN spectra of carrageenan and agar, obtained by alkaline extraction from different seaweeds, were recorded in order to identify the type of phycocolloid produced, with special emphasis given to the 500-1500 cm(-1) region, which presents several vibrational modes, sensitive to thetype of polysaccharide and to the types of glycosidic linkage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical composition of red, brown and green macroalgae from Buarcos bay in Central West Coast of Portugal
Dina Rodrigues,Ana C. Freitas,Leonel Pereira,Teresa Rocha-Santos,Marta W. Vasconcelos,Mariana Roriz,Luis M. Rodríguez-Alcalá,Ana M. P. Gomes,Armando C. Duarte +8 more
TL;DR: Six representative edible seaweeds from the Central West Portuguese Coast, including the less studied Osmundea pinnatifida, were harvested from Buarcos bay, Portugal and their chemical characterization determined, corroborating their good nutritional value.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seaweed Phenolics: From Extraction to Applications.
João Cotas,Adriana Leandro,Pedro Monteiro,Diana Pacheco,Artur Figueirinha,Ana M. M. Gonçalves,Ana M. M. Gonçalves,Gabriela Jorge Da Silva,Leonel Pereira +8 more
TL;DR: This review focuses on the extraction, purification, and future applications of seaweedphenolic compounds based on the bioactive properties described in the literature and intends to provide a comprehensive insight into the phenolic compounds in seaweed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis by Vibrational Spectroscopy of Seaweed Polysaccharides with Potential Use in Food, Pharmaceutical, and Cosmetic Industries
TL;DR: The nature of polysaccharides (with extraction and without any type of extraction) present in these seaweeds was determined with FTIR-ATR and FT-Raman analysis of extracted phycocolloids and ground dry seaweed as mentioned in this paper.
