Journal ArticleDOI
The emergence of squirrelpox in Ireland.
Colin McInnes,Lesley Coulter,Mark P. Dagleish,David Deane,Janice Gilray,Ann Percival,Kim Willoughby,Michael Scantlebury,Nikki J. Marks,D. Graham,David J. Everest,M. McGoldrick,J. Rochford,F. McKay,Anthony W. Sainsbury +14 more
TL;DR: Serological evidence of the extent of poxvirus infection in the grey squirrels from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, including an apparent increase in the seroprevalence of antibodies against the virus ingrey squirrels over the period of the study is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of Poxvirus Gene Expression and Genome Replication by Bisbenzimide Derivatives.
Artur Yakimovich,Artur Yakimovich,Moona Huttunen,Benno Zehnder,Lesley Coulter,Victoria Gould,Christoph Schneider,Manfred Kopf,Colin McInnes,Urs F. Greber,Jason Mercer,Jason Mercer +11 more
TL;DR: Results from a variety of assays used to dissect the poxvirus life cycle demonstrate that bisbenzimides inhibit viral gene expression and genome replication, which can lead to the development of novel antiviral drugs that target viral genomes and block viral replication.
Journal ArticleDOI
First cases of squirrelpox in red squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris) in Scotland.
Colin McInnes,Lesley Coulter,Mark P. Dagleish,C. Fiegna,Janice Gilray,Kim Willoughby,M. Cole,Elspeth Milne,Anna Meredith,David J. Everest,A. M. MacMaster +10 more
TL;DR: Four squirrels examined had gross external lesions and histological lesions typical of squirrelpox disease, but no significant internal lesions, and the diagnosis was confirmed by PCR, electron microscopy and serology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infection with Possible Novel Parapoxvirus in Horse, Finland, 2013.
Niina Airas,Maria Hautaniemi,Pernilla Syrjä,Anna Knuuttila,Niina Putkuri,Lesley Coulter,Colin McInnes,Olli Vapalahti,Anita Huovilainen,Paula M. Kinnunen +9 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate horses may be a reservoir for zoonotic parapoxvirus, closely resembling a novel poxvirus detected in humans in the United States after horse contact.
