A method for improving the performance and availability of a distributed application includes providing a distributed application configured to run on one or more origin server nodes located at an origin site. Next, providing a networked computing environment comprising one or more server nodes. The origin site and the computing environment are connected via a network. Next, providing replication means configured to replicate the distributed application and replicating the distributed application via the replication means thereby generating one or more replicas of the distributed application. Next, providing node management means configured to control any of the server nodes and then deploying the replicas of the distributed application to one or more server nodes of the computing environment via the node management means. Next, providing traffic management means configured to direct client requests to any of the server nodes and then directing client requests targeted to access the distributed application to optimal server nodes running the distributed application via the traffic management means. The optimal server nodes are selected among the origin server nodes and the computing environment server nodes based on certain metrics.

Operating profiles for consumers of computing resources may be automatically determined based on an analysis of actual resource usage measurements and other operating metrics. Measurements may be taken while a consumer, such as a virtual machine instance, uses computing resources, such as those provided by a host. A profile may be dynamically determined based on those measurements. Profiles may be generalized such that groups of consumers with similar usage profiles are associated with a single profile. Assignment decisions may be made based on the profiles, and computing resources may be reallocated or oversubscribed if the profiles indicate that the consumers are unlikely to fully utilize the resources reserved for them. Oversubscribed resources may be monitored, and consumers may be transferred to different resource providers if contention for resources is too high.

A method, security system control module and policy server for providing security for Mobile Stations (MSs) in a Packet-Switched Telecommunications System. When an MS accesses the system, its identity is sent to a security system control module that retrieves a security profile associated with the MS. A policy server of the security system control module stores individual security profiles, default security profiles and group security profiles for registered subscribers. Security settings associated with the MS security profile are returned from the policy server to a mobile security manager of the control module, which then determines if they should be propagated in the system. When no previous network access was made in a given time period by an MS having similar security settings, i.e. belongs to the same group security profile, the settings are propagated in the system in order to be enforced, for providing security protection for the MS.

A content service network for providing content-oriented services over the Internet or similar networks comprises a service delivery overlay having a plurality of application servers and a content delivery network overlay having a plurality of service-enabled proxies in content delivery paths between content providers and content consumers. The service delivery overlay and the content delivery network collaborate to provide content-oriented processing, such as adaptive video delivery, content personalization, language translation, etc. The content service network accepts subscriptions from content providers and content consumer. For each subscription, service instructions including service binding data for binding the subscribed services with the subscriber's identity are generated and distributed to the service-enabled proxies. When a service-enabled proxy detects that a message passing therethrough requires a subscribed service, it retrieves service instructions for the service and renders the service either by making a remote call to an application service or by invoking a local execution module.
