Oil droplet interaction with suspended sediment in the seawater column: Influence of physical parameters and chemical dispersants

TL;DR: In this paper, the interaction of dispersed oil droplets with large diameter suspended particulate materials (SPM) has been studied, and it was shown that particle size, oil characteristics and chemical dispersant significantly influence the adsorption of oil droplet to SPM in seawater.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of gas chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry to determine a wide range of petrogenic alkylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in biotic samples

TL;DR: A comprehensive and sensitive method for the determination of C1-C4 alkylated naphthalenes, benzothiophenes, fluorenes, phenanthrenes, chrysenes, pyrenes and fluoranthenes was developed and showed good precision and the obtained concentrations were similar to those obtained by traditional GC/MS analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transfer of Additive Chemicals From Marine Plastic Debris to the Stomach Oil of Northern Fulmars

TL;DR: In this paper, the transfer of plastic additives to stomach oil of northern fulmars (Fulmarus glacialis) has been investigated, and a total of 15 additives, including plasticizers, antioxidants, UV stabilizers, flame retardants, and preservatives were identified in the original plastic mixtures, and monitored in the leachates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accumulation and toxicity of monoaromatic petroleum hydrocarbons in early life stages of cod and haddock.

TL;DR: Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was applied to investigate the body burden of a wide range of petrogenic compounds in Atlantic haddock and cod embryos that had been exposed to sublethal doses of dispersed crude oil.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optimization and comparison of miniaturized extraction techniques for PAHs from crude oil exposed Atlantic cod and haddock eggs

TL;DR: Two miniaturized extraction methods for a wide range of 2-6 ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their alkylated homologues in small lipid-rich biota samples have been developed and specific emphasis was given to minimizing lipid co-extraction.
