Journal ArticleDOI
Toll-like receptor 2 as a major gene for asthma in children of European farmers
Waltraud Eder,Waltraud Eder,Walter T. Klimecki,Lizhi Yu,Erika von Mutius,Josef Riedler,Charlotte Braun-Fahrländer,Dennis Nowak,Fernando D. Martinez +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that genetic variation in TLR2 is a major determinant of the susceptibility to asthma and allergies in children of farmers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Opposite effects of CD14/-260 on serum IgE levels in children raised in different environments
Waltraud Eder,Waltraud Eder,Walter T. Klimecki,Lizhi Yu,Erika von Mutius,Josef Riedler,Charlotte Braun-Fahrländer,Dennis Nowak,Fernando D. Martinez +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the association between a polymorphism in the promoter region of CD14 (CD14/−260C→T ) and serum IgE levels in relation to the environment to which children are exposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Th2 Cell-Selective Enhancement of Human IL13 Transcription by IL13-1112C>T, a Polymorphism Associated with Allergic Inflammation
Lisa Cameron,Robin B. Webster,Jannine M. Strempel,Patricia Kiesler,Michael Kabesch,Harikrishnan Ramachandran,Lizhi Yu,Debra A. Stern,Penelope E. Graves,I. Carla Lohman,Anne L. Wright,Marilyn Halonen,Walter T. Klimecki,Donata Vercelli +13 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest the nuclear milieu dictates the functional outcome of genetic variation in primary human and murine CD4+ Th2 lymphocytes and that increased expression of IL13-1112T in vivo may underlie its association with susceptibility to allergic inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Developmentally Restricted Genetic Determinants of Human Arsenic Metabolism: Association between Urinary Methylated Arsenic and CYT19 Polymorphisms in Children
Maria Mercedes Meza,Lizhi Yu,Yelitza Y. Rodriguez,Mischa Guild,David Thompson,A. Jay Gandolfi,Walter T. Klimecki +6 more
TL;DR: A screen for genetic association with urinary arsenic metabolite levels in three arsenic metabolism candidate genes, PNP, GSTO, and CYT19, in 135 arsenic-exposed subjects from the Yaqui Valley in Sonora, Mexico revealed a strong, developmentally regulated genetic association between CYT 19 and arsenic metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between exposure to farming, allergies and genetic variation in CARD4/NOD1
Waltraud Eder,Waltraud Eder,Walter T. Klimecki,Lizhi Yu,E. von Mutius,J. Riedler,C Braun-Fahrländer,Dennis Nowak,O Holst,Fernando D. Martinez +9 more
TL;DR: Whether the previously observed inverse association between exposure to microbial products and asthma and allergies in childhood is modified by genetic variation in CARD4 is explored.
