In spatial games players typically alter their strategy by imitating the most successful or one randomly selected neighbor. Since a single neighbor is taken as reference, the information stemming from other neighbors is neglected, which begets the consideration of alternative, possibly more realistic approaches. Here we show that strategy changes inspired not only by the performance of individual neighbors but rather by entire neighborhoods introduce a qualitatively different evolutionary dynamics that is able to support the stable existence of very small cooperative clusters. This leads to phase diagrams that differ significantly from those obtained by means of pairwise strategy updating. In particular, the survivability of cooperators is possible even by high temptations to defect and over a much wider uncertainty range. We support the simulation results by means of pair approximations and analysis of spatial patterns, which jointly highlight the importance of local information for the resolution of social dilemmas.

With the rapid growth of Web services on the Internet, the atomic Web services as nodes and their functionality dependency relationships as edges form a complex Web service network. Various interactions between Web services can occur along the edges, such as collaboration, competition and substitution, etc. So far, however, there lack of an effective and scalable model for generating Web service interaction networks capturing the aforementioned types of interactions, which hinders the relevant researches such as development of new service composition algorithms and the investigation of evolution mechanisms of service networks. In this paper, we propose a model which is able to generate two types of Web service interaction networks, namely complementary Web service interaction network (CWSIN) and similar Web service interaction network (SWSIN). We show that CWSIN exhibits some of the typical characteristics reported in the previous empirical studies.

An Evolving Web Service Interaction Network Model

Most studies on the propagation problem focus mainly on the network without antagonistic interactions. Yet generally, the information propagation is affected by the type of interaction between individuals. In this article, we study the propagation problem over a network with antagonistic interactions, modeled as a signed graph. The sign attached to an edge in this graph characterizes the cooperative (positive edge) or antagonistic (negative edge) relation between agents. If the relation between an agent and its neighbor is positive, it will believe the information coming from its neighbor, otherwise it believes the opposite information. Following the above rule, we propose a novel information propagation model by a mean-field approximation. First, we give the threshold condition such that the zero equilibrium of the propagation model is asymptotically stable, which means that the information will eventually disappear in the network. Second, when the threshold condition is violated, by Brouwer's fixed point theorem, we prove the existence of nonzero equilibrium. Moreover, the influence of structurally balanced and unbalanced signed networks on the propagation process are analyzed, respectively.
