TL;DR: Transplant-Associated Infection Surveillance Network data provide important insights into the timing and incidence of IFIs among organ transplant recipients, which can help to focus effective prevention and treatment strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Attributable Mortality of Nosocomial Candidemia, Revisited
Olafur Gudlaugsson,Olafur Gudlaugsson,Shane Gillespie,Kathleen Lee,Jeff Vande Berg,Jianfang Hu,Shawn A. Messer,Loreen A. Herwaldt,Loreen A. Herwaldt,Michael A. Pfaller,Michael A. Pfaller,Daniel J. Diekema,Daniel J. Diekema +12 more
TL;DR: Nosocomial candidemia is still associated with an extremely high crude and attributable mortality--much higher than that expected from underlying disease alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intranasal mupirocin to prevent postoperative Staphylococcus aureus infections.
Trish M. Perl,Joseph J. Cullen,Richard P. Wenzel,M. Bridget Zimmerman,Michael A. Pfaller,Deborah Sheppard,Jennifer Twombley,Pamela French,Pamela French,Loreen A. Herwaldt +9 more
TL;DR: Prophylactic intranasal application of mupirocin did not significantly reduce the rate of S. aureus surgical-site infections overall, but it did significantly decrease the rates of all nosocomial S.Aureus infections among the patients who were S.aureus carriers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Michael W. Climo,Michael W. Climo,Deborah S. Yokoe,David K. Warren,Trish M. Perl,Maureen K. Bolon,Loreen A. Herwaldt,Robert A. Weinstein,Kent A. Sepkowitz,John A. Jernigan,Kakotan Sanogo,Edward S. Wong,Edward S. Wong +12 more
TL;DR: Daily bathing with chlorhexidine-impregnated washcloths significantly reduced the risks of acquisition of MDROs and development of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tara C. Smith,Michael J. Male,Abby L. Harper,J. Kroeger,Gregory P. Tinkler,Erin D. Moritz,Ana W. Capuano,Loreen A. Herwaldt,Loreen A. Herwaldt,Loreen A. Herwaldt,Daniel J. Diekema,Daniel J. Diekema +11 more
