Journal Article
Deregulated Bcl-2 gene expression selectively prolongs survival of growth factor-deprived hemopoietic cell lines.
Gabriel Núñez,Lucille London,David M. Hockenbery,Martha Alexander,John P. McKearn,Stanley J. Korsmeyer +5 more
TL;DR: Bcl-2 appears to interfere with cell death but in a cell type and/or factor-restricted fashion, and an IL-6-dependent myeloma line demonstrated no consistent effect upon IL withdrawal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deregulated Bcl-2-immunoglobulin transgene expands a resting but responsive immunoglobulin M and D-expressing B-cell population.
Timothy J. McDonnell,Gabriel Núñez,Frances M. Platt,David Hockenberry,Lucille London,John P. McKearn,Stanley J. Korsmeyer +6 more
TL;DR: Findings provide consistent evidence that the accumulation of B cells after Bcl-2 overproduction is secondary to prolonged cell survival and not increased cell cycling, and suggests a unique role for B cl-2 as a proto-oncogene that enhances cell survival independent of promoting cell division.
