Journal ArticleDOI

The peroxisomal import signal of amine oxidase from the yeast Hansenula polymorpha is not universal

TL;DR: Heterologous expression of the amine oxidase gene (AMO) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is explored to investigate the conservation of peroxisomal targeting pathways between yeasts and Contrary to the established tripeptide motif, the amines oxidase targeting signal appears not to be conserved between the different yeast species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Overexpression of alcohol oxidase in Pichia pastoris.

TL;DR: The protein import capacity of peroxisomes in methylotrophic yeasts was studied using Pichia pastoris containing one or two extra copies of the gene encoding the peroxISomal protein alcohol oxidase and the results are discussed in view of the possible application of perxisomes as storage compartments for heterologous proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human catalase is imported and assembled in peroxisomes of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

TL;DR: The intracellular localization of human peroxisomal catalase when expressed in yeast is determined using immunofluorescence, differential centrifugation and immunoelectron microscopy to show that the protein is targeted to theperoxisomes of the heterologous cell and assembled in its active tetrameric form.
