Journal ArticleDOI
Environmental status of the Gulf of California: A pollution review
Federico Páez-Osuna,Saúl Álvarez-Borrego,Ana Carolina Ruiz-Fernández,Jacqueline García-Hernández,Martín E. Jara-Marini,Magdalena E. Bergés-Tiznado,Magdalena E. Bergés-Tiznado,Alejandra Piñón-Gimate,Rosalba Alonso-Rodríguez,Martín F. Soto-Jiménez,Martín G. Frías-Espericueta,Jorge Ruelas-Inzunza,Carlos Green-Ruiz,C. Cristina Osuna-Martínez,Joan-Albert Sanchez-Cabeza +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the main issues associated to the presence of metals, metalloids, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), brominated diphenyl ethers (deca tri-a) (PBDEs), plastics, nutrients and algal blooms are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arsenic in waters, soils, sediments, and biota from Mexico: An environmental review
C. Cristina Osuna-Martínez,María Aurora Armienta,Magdalena E. Bergés-Tiznado,Federico Páez-Osuna +3 more
TL;DR: In contaminated arid and semi-arid areas, the plants P. laevigata and A. farnesiana exhibit the highest As levels, and the human and environmental risks associated with the presence of As in such regions are emphasized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mercury and Selenium in Muscle and Target Organs of Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks Sphyrna lewini of the SE Gulf of California: Dietary Intake, Molar Ratios, Loads, and Human Health Risks.
Magdalena E. Bergés-Tiznado,Fernando Márquez-Farías,Raúl E. Lara-Mendoza,Yassir Eden Torres-Rojas,Yassir Eden Torres-Rojas,Felipe Galván-Magaña,Humberto Bojórquez-Leyva,Federico Páez-Osuna +7 more
TL;DR: The muscle of S. lewini should be consumed by people cautiously so as not to exceed the recommended intake per week and might be affected by factors, such as geographical area, age, size, and feeding habits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mercury and selenium in tissues and stomach contents of the migratory sailfish, Istiophorus platypterus, from the Eastern Pacific: Concentration, biomagnification, and dietary intake.
Magdalena E. Bergés-Tiznado,J. Fernando Márquez-Farías,Yassir Eden Torres-Rojas,Felipe Galván-Magaña,Federico Páez-Osuna +4 more
TL;DR: Sailfish feed mainly on fishes and cephalopods with low Hg levels, these results indicate biomagnification of Hg and Se, and the muscle of I. platypterus should be consumed cautiously so as not to exceed the recommended intake of 215 g per week.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trace metals in target tissues and stomach contents of the top predator sailfish Istiophorus platypterus from the Eastern Pacific: concentrations and contrasting behavior of biomagnification
Dalia Moreno-Sierra,Magdalena E. Bergés-Tiznado,Fernando Márquez-Farías,Yassir Eden Torres-Rojas,Yassir Eden Torres-Rojas,Jorge Ruelas-Inzunza,Federico Páez-Osuna +6 more
TL;DR: Of the four analyzed elements, only Pb was biomagnified (BMF = 1.85), and according to the regulatory limits, muscle exhibited Cd concentrations higher than the Official Mexican Standard, WHO, FDA, FDA and the European Union regulations.
