Journal ArticleDOI
Intracoronary abciximab and aspiration thrombectomy in patients with large anterior myocardial infarction: the INFUSE-AMI randomized trial.
Gregg W. Stone,Akiko Maehara,Bernhard Witzenbichler,Jacek Godlewski,Helen Parise,Jan-Henk E. Dambrink,Andrzej Ochała,Trevor Carlton,Ecaterina Cristea,Steven D. Wolff,Sorin J. Brener,Saqib Chowdhary,Magdi El-Omar,Thomas Neunteufl,D. Christopher Metzger,Theodore Karwoski,Jose Dizon,Roxana Mehran,C. Michael Gibson +18 more
TL;DR: To determine whether bolus intracoronary abciximab, manual aspiration thrombectomy, or both reduce infarct size in high-risk patients with STEMI, an open-label, 2 x 2 factorial design was conducted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outcomes after thrombus aspiration for ST elevation myocardial infarction: 1-year follow-up of the prospective randomised TOTAL trial.
Sanjit S. Jolly,John A. Cairns,Salim Yusuf,Michael Rokoss,Peggy Gao,Brandi Meeks,Sasko Kedev,Goran Stankovic,Raul Moreno,Anthony H. Gershlick,Saqib Chowdhary,Shahar Lavi,Kari Niemelä,Ivo Bernat,Warren J. Cantor,Asim N. Cheema,Philippe Gabriel Steg,Robert C. Welsh,Tej Sheth,Olivier F. Bertrand,Alvaro Avezum,Ravinay Bhindi,Madhu K. Natarajan,David Horák,R. Leung,Saleem Kassam,Sunil V. Rao,Magdi El-Omar,Shamir R. Mehta,James L. Velianou,Samir Pancholy,Vladimír Džavík +31 more
TL;DR: Routine thrombus aspiration during PCI for STEMI did not reduce longer-term clinical outcomes and might be associated with an increase in stroke and can no longer be recommended as a routine strategy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Longitudinal stent deformation: a retrospective analysis of frequency and mechanisms.
Paul Williams,Mamas A. Mamas,Kenneth P. Morgan,Magdi El-Omar,Bernard Clarke,Anthony Bainbridge,Farzin Fath-Ordoubadi,Douglas G. Fraser +7 more
TL;DR: Longitudinal stent deformation can occur secondary to a variety of mechanisms and identification is important as, left untreated, it may be associated with a risk of stent thrombosis.
Journal Article
Resting Pd/Pa measured with intracoronary pressure wire strongly predicts fractional flow reserve.
Mamas A. Mamas,Simon Horner,Elise Welch,Anthony Ashworth,Simon Millington,Doug Fraser,Farzin Fath-Ordoubadi,Ludwig Neyses,Magdi El-Omar +8 more
TL;DR: A strong correlation between resting Pd/Pa and FFR can be used to predict a positive FFR result with relatively high PPV and NPV, which may potentially obviate the need for adenosine infusion in a proportion of pressure-wire studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stroke in the TOTAL trial: a randomized trial of routine thrombectomy vs. percutaneous coronary intervention alone in ST elevation myocardial infarction.
Sanjit S. Jolly,John A. Cairns,Salim Yusuf,Brandi Meeks,Peggy Gao,Robert G. Hart,Sasko Kedev,Goran Stankovic,Raul Moreno,David Horák,Saleem Kassam,Michael Rokoss,R. Leung,Magdi El-Omar,Hannu O. Romppanen,Ashraf Alazzoni,Aiman Alak,Anthony Fung,Dimitrios Alexopoulos,John D. Schwalm,Nicholas Valettas,Vladimír Džavík +21 more
TL;DR: Thrombectomy was associated with a significant increase in stroke, and future trials must carefully collect stroke to determine safety in addition to efficacy.
