Biogeography-based optimization (BBO) is an evolutionary algorithm which is inspired by the migration of species between habitats Almost 10 years have passed since the first BBO paper was published in 2008 BBO has successfully solved optimization problems in many different domains and has reached a relatively mature state Considering the significant and expanding research on BBO and its applications, we find that the time is right to provide a 10-year anniversary review of the published literature, and also to point out some important avenues of future research The purpose of this paper is to summarize and organize the literature related to the past 10 years of BBO research Beginning with a foundation of basic BBO, we review the family of BBO algorithms and discuss BBO modifications, hybridizations, applications in science and engineering, and mathematical theory Finally, the paper presents some interesting open problems and future research directions for BBO

Biogeography-Based Optimization: A 10-Year Review

The generation of power from the reduction of fossil fuels is the biggest challenge for the next half century. The idea of converting solar energy into electrical energy using photovoltaic panels holds its place in the front row compared to other renewable sources. But the continuous change in the relative angle of the sun with reference to the earth reduces the watts delivered by solar panel. In this context solar tracking system is the best alternative to increase the efficiency of the photovoltaic panel. Solar trackers move the payload towards the sun throughout the day. In this paper different types of tracking systems are reviewed and their pros and cons are discussed in detail. The results presented in this review confirm that the azimuth and altitude dual axis tracking system is more efficient compared to other tracking systems. However in cost and flexibility point of view single axis tracking system is more feasible than dual axis tracking system.

Solar tracking system – a review

Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a general purpose programmable logic device that can be configured by a customer after manufacturing to perform from a simple logic gate operations to complex systems on chip or even artificial intelligence systems. Scientific publications related to FPGA started in 1992 and, up to now, we found more than 70,000 documents in the two leading scientific databases (Scopus and Clarivative Web of Science). These publications show the vast range of applications based on FPGAs, from the new mechanism that enables the magnetic suspension system for the kilogram redefinition, to the Mars rovers’ navigation systems. This paper reviews the top FPGAs’ applications by a scientometric analysis in ScientoPy, covering publications related to FPGAs from 1992 to 2018. Here we found the top 150 applications that we divided into the following categories: digital control, communication interfaces, networking, computer security, cryptography techniques, machine learning, digital signal processing, image and video processing, big data, computer algorithms and other applications. Also, we present an evolution and trend analysis of the related applications.

Field Programmable Gate Array Applications—A Scientometric Review

The major goal of a futuristic Mobile phone system is to provide excellent Quality of Service (QoS) to the user by enhancing the available Band width along with the establishment of assured, guaranteed seamless connection between the users in spite of nature, quality of the Networks used by them. In traditional algorithm relative signal strength and other conventional parameters are used for execution of the Handoff mechanism. With these parameters the enhancement in QoS was achieved up to certain extent. For further exploitment of the technique by using some Artificial Intelligence Techniques such as Fuzzy Logic, Neural Network, etc. The fuzzy logic based approach allows an organized tuning of the handoff parameters to provide a balanced tradeoff among different system characteristics.

FPGA Based Multiple Fault Tolerant and Recoverable Technique Using Triple Modular Redundancy (FRTMR)

Pitch detection algorithm is important feature in the speech processing algorithms. It can be used for speaker recognition, speech instruction of the hearing impaired ones, vocoder systems, discriminate normal and pathological voice etc. Hence robust and accurate determination of pitch is necessary. The paper involves determining pitch of the speech signal by the pitch detection algorithm — 1) Autocorrelation method, 2) Cepstrum Method, 3) Simplified Inverse Filtering Method 4) Data Reduction Method. A measurement is made on the pitch contours to explore how voice/acoustic parameter like fundamental frequency can determine person's health. The paper attempts to identify and classify the pathological voices from the normal voices using k-NN algorithm. The relative performance comparison is done in terms of accuracy and speed of operation of the above mentioned algorithms.

Compressed sensing or compressive sensing or CS is a new data acquisition protocol that has been an active research area for nearly a decade. It samples the signal of interest at a rate much below the Shannon nyquist rate and has led to better results in many cases as compared to the traditional Shannon - nyquist sampling theory. This paper surveys the theory of Compressive sensing and its applications in various fields of interest.
