Stress development in alumina scales formed upon oxidation of (111) NiAl single crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, stress evolution in the α phase of the alumina scale formed on single crystals of (111) NiAl as a function of oxidation time at 1100 °C was reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling cross-hatch surface morphology in growing mismatched layers

TL;DR: In this paper, a model for the development of cross-hatch surface morphology in growing mismatched layers is proposed and investigated, which incorporates two important elements: (i) strain relaxation due to dislocation glide in the layer interior that is also associated with misfit dislocation formation at the film/substrate interface and (ii) lateral surface transport that eliminates surface steps that originated from dislocation drift.
Journal ArticleDOI

GITT Analysis of Lithium Insertion Cathodes for Determining the Lithium Diffusion Coefficient at Low Temperature: Challenges and Pitfalls

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate and discuss challenges and pitfalls during the application and evaluation of GITT measurements for determining kinetic coefficients of Li-insertion electrodes, which becoming important at low temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Al-doping on the properties of Li–Mn–Ni–O cathode materials for Li-ion batteries: an ab initio study

TL;DR: In this paper, the key properties of a successful cathode material, such as the structural stability during delithiation, the battery voltage, and the Li mobility, were investigated for Al-doped Li-Mn-Ni oxide structures, using density-functional theory and the nudged-elastic band method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of state of charge-dependent asymmetric Butler–Volmer kinetics for LixCoO2 electrode using GITT measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, the GITT measurements of LixCoO2/Li half-cell voltages were numerically simulated based on Newman's well established electrochemical pseudo 2D model, which revealed differences in the charge transfer kinetics between charging and discharging.
