There are many emerging areas in which highly constrained devices are interconnected and communicated to accomplish some tasks Nowadays, Internet of Things (IoT) enables many low resources and constrained devices to communicate, compute process and make decision in the communication network In the heterogeneous environments for IoT, there are many challenges and issues like power consumption of devices, limited battery, memory space, performance cost, and security in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) network In this paper, we discuss a state-of-art of lightweight cryptographic primitives which include lightweight block ciphers, hash function, stream ciphers, high performance system, and low resources device for IoT environment in details We analyze many lightweight cryptographic algorithms based on their key size, block size, number of rounds, and structures In addition, we discuss the security architecture in IoT for constrained device environment, and focus on research challenges, issues and solutions Finally, a proposed security scheme with a service scenario for an improvement of resource constrained IoT environment and open issues are discussed

Advanced lightweight encryption algorithms for IoT devices: survey, challenges and solutions

Personal Health Records (PHRs) should remain the lifelong property of patients, who should be able to show them conveniently and securely to selected caregivers and institutions. In this paper, we present My PHR Machines, a cloud-based PHR system taking a radically new architectural solution to health record portability. In My PHR Machines, health-related data and the application software to view and/or analyze it are separately deployed in the PHR system. After uploading their medical data to My PHR Machines, patients can access them again from remote virtual machines that contain the right software to visualize and analyze them without any need for conversion. Patients can share their remote virtual machine session with selected caregivers, who will need only a Web browser to access the pre-loaded fragments of their lifelong PHR. We discuss a prototype of My PHR Machines applied to two use cases, i.e., radiology image sharing and personalized medicine.

Scalable and Secure Sharing of Personal Health Records in Cloud Computing using Attribute–Based Encryption

Data security and privacy preservation in cloud storage environments based on cryptographic mechanisms

Fog computing is a paradigm that extends cloud computing to the edge of the network. It can provide computation and storage services to end devices in Internet of Things (IoT). Attribute-based cryptography is a well-known technology to guarantee data confidentiality and fine-grained data access control. However, its computational cost in encryption and decryption phase is linear with the complexity of policy. In this paper, we propose a secure and fine-grained data access control scheme with ciphertext update and computation outsourcing in fog computing for IoT. The sensitive data of data owner are first encrypted using attribute-based encryption with multiple policies and then outsourced to cloud storage. Hence, the user whose attributes satisfy the access policy can decrypt the ciphertext. Based on the attribute-based signature technique, authorized user whose attributes integrated in the signature satisfy the update policy can renew the ciphertext. Specifically, most of the encryption, decryption, and signing computations are outsourced from end devices to fog nodes, and thus, the computations for data owners to encrypt, end users to decrypt, re-encrypt, and sign are irrelevant to the number of attributes in the policies. The security analysis shows that the proposed scheme is secure against known attacks, and the experimental results show that the fog nodes perform most of the computation operations of encryption, decryption, and signing, and hence, the time of encryption for data owner, decryption, re-encryption, and signing for users is small and constant.

Secure Data Access Control With Ciphertext Update and Computation Outsourcing in Fog Computing for Internet of Things

The development of Electronic Information Technology has made the Electronic Medical Record a commonly used approach to recording and categorizing medical patient data in databases of different hospitals and medical entities so that controlling the shared data is not possible for patients at all. The importance of medical data as possessions of people and the system leads us to be concerned about its security, privacy, and accessibility. How to store and controlling access to medical information is of the most important challenges in the electronic health area. The present paper provides a new, secure, and efficient scheme based on blockchain technology and attribute-based encryption entitled “MedSBA” to record and store medical data, indicating that our proposed scheme protects user privacy and allows fine-grain access control of medical patient data based on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Private blockchains are used in MedSBA to improve the right to revoke instant access which is of the attribute-based encryption challenges. The security and functionality of our proposed scheme are proved within a formal model and based on BAN logic, respectively; simulating the MedSBA scheme in the OPNET software as well as examining its computational complexity and storage indicates the efficiency of the present scheme.
