The role of MOFs in Thin-Film Nanocomposite (TFN) membranes

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis and functioning of TFN membranes are investigated via targeted membrane synthesis and thorough characterization via STEM-EDX, XRD and PALS, and it is hypothesized that the acid generated during the interfacial polymerization (IP) at least partially degrades the crystalline, acid-sensitive ZIF-8 and that this influences the membrane formation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reversible Optical Writing and Data Storage in an Anthracene‐Loaded Metal‐Organic Framework

TL;DR: This work shows how the confinement of anthracene in a well-chosen MOF host leads to reversible yellow-to-purple photoswitching of the fluorescence emission, which holds promise in product authentication and secure communication applications.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crosslinked PVA/SSA proton exchange membranes: correlation between physiochemical properties and free volume determined by positron annihilation spectroscopy

TL;DR: It was revealed that the thermal stability of the crosslinked membranes improved and a strong correlation between the water uptake, ionic conductivity, tensile strength, and free-volume holes was observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thin film composite membrane compaction in high-pressure reverse osmosis

TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrated that compaction decreases the water permeability of commercial reverse osmosis (RO) membranes from 2.0 Lm−m−2h−1 bar−1 at 70 bar applied hydraulic pressure to 1.3 Lm −m−n−2 h−1 b/n/n at 150 bar, where a ~60% decrease in cross-sectional thickness was observed.
