TL;DR: The highest species diversity was recorded in the Araucaria plantation while the greatest occurrence of shade tolerant taxa was found in the native AraUCaria forest type, which may be related to the host-tree characteristics found in these areas.
Abstract: Lichenized fungi are epiphytic components of forest areas where anthropogenic activities may cause changes in species composition and spatial distribution. The aim of this work is to evaluate how the lichen community is distributed on native and planted vegetation, and also to investigate possible preferences of the lichen community for specific host trees related to bark pH values. A total of 120 host-trees distributed in 12 remnants of native and planted vegetation were analyzed: native Araucaria forest and Araucaria, pine and eucalyptus plantations. Additional samples of lichenized fungi were collected in all vegetation types and adjacent trails, using a non-systematic sampling protocol. One hundred thirteen taxa of lichenized fungi were recorded, of which 78 species originated from the survey comparing the four habitats and 35 were added by additional collections. The highest species diversity was recorded in the Araucaria plantation while the greatest occurrence of shade tolerant taxa was found in the native Araucaria forest type. The largest number of lichen taxa was recorded on host-trees with basic bark pH. The wide variety of lichen community composition and distribution registered may be related to the host-tree characteristics found in these areas.

Abstract: In a survey of the species pertaining to genera of large parmeliae occurring in the coastal areas of the central-southern coast of Sao Paulo state, Brazil, seven species of Parmotrema sensu stricto (foliose thalli with rounded lobes usually more than 05 mm wide with nude lower margins) containing equinocarpic or stictic acids as the main medullar substances were found These are typically recognized by the strong yellow- staining potassium hydroxide spot test An identification key, descriptions, comments, and illustrations based on Brazilian material are provided for these species

TL;DR: In a survey of the species pertaining to genera of large parmelioid lichens occurring in the coastal areas of the center-south coast of Sao Paulo State, Brazil, four species of Parmotrema A. Massal with medullar fatty acids and one containingMedullar atranorin were found.
TL;DR: Six species of Punctelia with black lower surface lacking vegetative propagules are taxonomically revised, and P. borrerina (Nyl.) Krog is regarded as a synonym of P. microsticta (Müll. Arg.), as previously thought.
Abstract: Six species of Punctelia with black lower surface lacking vegetative propagules are taxonomically revised. Lectotypes are designated for P. borrerina, P. microsticta and Parmelia borreri var. allophyla. Punctelia involuta Canez & Marcelli is described as new. Punctelia borreri var. allophyla Kremp. is regarded as a synonym of P. borrerina (Nyl.) Krog, instead of P. microsticta (Mull. Arg.) Krog, as previously thought. Punctelia jujensis Adler is recorded for the first time for Brazil. All the species of this group occur in Brazil.

TL;DR: The anatomical characteristics are constant for the Parmotrema group studied, including the presence of epicortex, the upper cortex anatomy and the characteristics of rhizines and ciliae.
Abstract: Using conventional techniques for structural studies under conventional microscopy, polarizing light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy this work describes and compares the thallus anatomy of two Parmotrema species with reticulate maculae, previously included in the genus Rimelia: Parmotrema cetratum (Ach.) Hale and P. clavuliferum (Rasanen) Streimann. The data showed that the species are anatomically similar, including the presence of epicortex, the upper cortex anatomy and the characteristics of rhizines and ciliae. In the medulla of the two species there are star-shaped clusters of hyphae associated with the presence of salazinic acid. This study showed that the anatomical characteristics are constant for the Parmotrema group studied.

TL;DR: During a survey of the Parmeliaceae in natural ecosystems and urbanized coastal areas of southeastern Brazil, two new Parmotrema species containing alectoronic acid were discovered: P. hyperlaciniatulum and P. restingense.
Abstract: During a survey of the Parmeliaceae in natural ecosystems and urbanized coastal areas of southeastern Brazil, two new Parmotrema species containing alectoronic acid were discovered: P. hyperlaciniatulum and P. restingense. These species are described and compared to P. subrugatum.

TL;DR: It is indicated that there is a pattern in the structure of the upper cortex in all the three groups of Parmotrema species studied here, and this pattern can be used to place each species group separately within the genus ParmOTrema.

Abstract: Conventional techniques for structural studies under light microscope and scanning electron microscope were employed to describe the histology of thallus in Canoparmelia texana, a lichen with wide distribution in open environments and fairly common in the cerrados and urban areas of Brazil. This study describes a new type of cortical organization for the family Parmeliaceae, in C. texana the upper cortex is lacunar, showing a large quantity of small intercellular spaces or lacunae. The anatomical features including medulla thickness, hyphal orientation pattern, rhizines thickness and crystals inclusions have an important adaptive role for the success of C. texana in Brazilian cerrado, a savanna-like ecosystem.
