TL;DR: In this paper, a scanning micro-interferometer, without moving parts, based on the well-known Mach-Zehnder geometry, was presented for detecting the characteristic spectral lines of a Xe-arc lamp on a 400nm wide spectral window.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the high-resolution X-ray diffraction technique in the reciprocal space mapping mode to study sub-micron periodic domain structures in lithium niobate crystals.
Abstract: The High Resolution X-Ray Diffraction technique in the reciprocal space mapping mode is exploited to study sub-micron periodic domain structures in lithium niobate crystals. Periodic satellite structure were detected around the reciprocal lattice points which carry information on the domain period and shape and also on the presence of lattice deformations. Moreover a pronounced diffuse scattering peak was observed, indicating the presence of a random displacement field possibly associated to the presence of randomly distributed structural defect.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the approximations used to extract the damage depth profiles from the RBS-channeling spectra of high energy ion implanted lithium niobate lead to incorrect results when two defective regions containing damage generated by electronic and nuclear energy deposition are produced.
Abstract: We show that the approximations used to extract the damage depth profiles from the RBS-channeling spectra of high energy ion implanted lithium niobate lead to incorrect results when two defective regions containing damage generated by electronic and nuclear energy deposition are produced. We demonstrate by high resolution X-ray diffraction analysis that the end-of-range defects formation is not influenced by the onset of different defects in the surface region and it is thus independent of the implantation energy. We propose universal curves, valid for ions Z ⩽ 14, for the end-of-range defective fraction and the maximum strain as a function of the density of energy deposited by nuclear processes.

TL;DR: In this paper, an optical diffraction technique is exploited to characterize periodically poled lithium niobate crystals grown by the off-center Czochralski technique, based on maps of the diffracted intensity in the reciprocal space, pointed out that a modulation in the refractive index occurs with a periodicity close to that measured by the chemical etching procedure.
Abstract: An unconventional optical diffraction technique is exploited to characterize periodically poled lithium niobate crystals grown by the off-center Czochralski technique. The method, based on maps of the diffracted intensity in the reciprocal space, pointed out that a modulation in the refractive index occurs with a periodicity close to that measured by the chemical etching procedure. In this case, therefore, the linear optical properties of domains with opposite polarization are different.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a feasibility study of a novel technique for continuously phase-matching second-harmonic generation in proton-exchanged lithium niobate waveguides.
Abstract: We present a feasibility study of a novel technique for continuously phase-matched second-harmonic generation in proton-exchanged lithium niobate waveguides. We demonstrate that a periodic variation of the nonlinear coefficient along the transverse direction with respect to the propagation one permits for efficient conversions. Comparison with the conventional first-order quasi-phase-matching interactions are then presented in front of unavoidable imperfections of real devices whenever Czochralski off-center technique is exploited in the fabrication process

Abstract: We present a feasiblity study of a new method for enhancing the continuously phase matched second harmonic generation in 2D PPLN optical waveguides fabricated using the off-center Czochralski technique and proton-exchange. We show that a periodic variation of the nonlinear coefficient along the transverse coordinate permits for efficient energetic exchanges.
