Fruit morphology, anatomy and relationships of the type species of Mastixicarpum and Eomastixia (Cornales) from the late Eocene of Hordle, southern England

TL;DR: The Mastixiaceae (Cornales) were more widespread and diverse in the Cenozoic than they are today as mentioned in this paper, and the fossil record includes fruits of both extant genera, Eomastixia and Diplopanax, as well as several extinct genera.
Journal ArticleDOI

A note on the charring of spores and implications for coal petrographic analysis and maceral nomenclature

TL;DR: In this paper, it is concluded that maceral analysis may not always be an appropriate or reliable method for interpretation of peat/coal formation and composition, and that macerals should be assigned to the inertinite maceral group based upon reflectance properties.

A novel polyphenol biopolymer isolated from fossil seeds: an alternative source for (alkyl) phenol moieties in brown coals

TL;DR: In this article, outer and inner layers of Late Eocene seeds of Stratiotes (water soldier) and Sabrenia (fossil water lily) were analyzed by flash pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
