Journal ArticleDOI
Platelet function assays
TL;DR: The roles of platelets in hemostasis and arterial thrombosis involve their adherence to sites of vessel injury or ruptured atherosclerotic plaques, aggregation to form hemostatic plugs or thrombi, and acceleration of the coagulation cascade leading to the formation of thrombin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Normal range of bleeding scores for the ISTH-BAT: adult and pediatric data from the merging project
Malak Elbatarny,S. Mollah,Julie Grabell,S. Bae,Meghan Deforest,Angie Tuttle,Wilma M. Hopman,Dewi Clark,Andreas C. Mauer,Andreas C. Mauer,M. Bowman,James P. Riddel,Pamela A. Christopherson,Robert R. Montgomery,Zimmerman Program Investigators,Margaret L. Rand,Barry S. Coller,Paula D. James +17 more
TL;DR: The normal range of bleeding scores showed that the normal range is 0–3 for adult males, 0–5 for adult females and 0–2 in children for both males and females, which can now be used to objectively assess bleeding symptoms as normal or abnormal in future studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of the diagnostic utility for von Willebrand disease of a pediatric bleeding questionnaire.
TL;DR: The clinical usefulness of the platelet aggregation test for the diagnosis of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and its role in recognition, treatment, and prevention are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma fibronectin supports hemostasis and regulates thrombosis
Yiming Wang,Adili Reheman,Christopher M. Spring,Jalil Kalantari,Alexandra H. Marshall,Alisa S. Wolberg,Peter L. Gross,Jeffrey I. Weitz,Margaret L. Rand,Deane F. Mosher,John Freedman,Heyu Ni +11 more
TL;DR: PFn transfusion may be a potential therapy for bleeding disorders, particularly in association with anticoagulant therapy, and plays a self-limiting regulatory role in thrombosis by interacting with fibrin and platelet β3 integrin.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Platelet Function Analyzer (PFA‐100®): a novel in‐vitro system for evaluation of primary haemostasis in children
Manuel Carcao,Victor S. Blanchette,J.A. Dean,L He,M A Kern,A. M. Stain,Cathy Sparling,Derek Stephens,G Ryan,John Freedman,Margaret L. Rand +10 more
TL;DR: The PFA‐100 system was found to be potentially useful in screening for von Willebrand disease in children and normal ranges for CTs in healthy children, adults and neonates were established.
