HDAC9 is implicated in atherosclerotic aortic calcification and affects vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype

TL;DR: This translational genomic study identifies the first genetic risk locus associated with calcification of the abdominal aorta and describes a previously unknown role for HDAC9 in the development of vascular calcification, showing that HDAC 9 promotes an osteogenic vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype, enhancing calcification and reducing contractility.

Predictive value of microvolt T-wave alternans in patients with left ventricular dysfunction.

TL;DR: Microvolt TWA predicts arrhythmia-free survival among patients with LV dysfunction, but the event rate in the TWA-negative group suggests that TWA may not be capable of identifying a sufficiently low-risk subset in this population to obviate the need for ICD implantation.
