Journal ArticleDOI
Activity of essential oil and its major compound, 1,8-cineole, from Eucalyptus globulus Labill., against the storage fungi Aspergillus flavus Link and Aspergillus parasiticus Speare.
Georgia Rocha Vilela,Gustavo Steffen de Almeida,Marisa Aparecida Bismara Regitano D'arce,Maria Heloísa Duarte de Moraes,José Otávio Brito,Maria Fátima das Graças Fernandes da Silva,Sebastião C. Silva,Sônia Maria de Stefano Piedade,Maria Antonia Calori-Domingues,Eduardo Micotti da Gloria +9 more
TL;DR: The essential oil from leaves of Eucalyptus globulus obtained by hydrodistillation, as well as its major compound 1,8-cineole, identified by gas chromatography coupled with a mass selective detector, were evaluated for their effectiveness against the storage fungi Aspergillus flavus and As pergillus parasiticus.
Book ChapterDOI
Polymeric Nanoparticle-Based Insecticides: A Controlled Release Purpose for Agrochemicals
Bruno Perlatti,Patrícia Luísa de Souza Bergo,Maria Fátima das Graças Fernandes da Silva,João B. Fernandes,Moacir Rossi Forim +4 more
TL;DR: Insects are one of the biggest animal populations with a very successful evolutive history, once they can be found chiefly in all possible environments all over the world, and the ability in providing several important goods, such as honey, dyes, lac and silk is especially valuable for humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flavonoids as noncompetitive inhibitors of Dengue virus NS2B-NS3 protease: Inhibition kinetics and docking studies
Lorena R.F. de Sousa,Hongmei Wu,Liliane Nebo,João B. Fernandes,Maria Fátima das Graças Fernandes da Silva,Werner Kiefer,Manuel Kanitz,Jochen Bodem,Wibke E. Diederich,Tanja Schirmeister,Paulo C. Vieira +10 more
TL;DR: The results of this study help to understand the mechanism of inhibition of the Dengue virus serine protease by flavonoids, which is essential for the development of improved inhibitors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemosystematics of the Rutaceae: suggestions for a more natural taxonomy and evolutionary interpretation of the family
TL;DR: The chemosystematics of Rutaceae is reviewed on the basis of updated surveys of various secondary metabolites and their biosynthetic derivation, and a stepwise replacement of benzylisoquinolines by simple and complex anthranilic acid derived alkaloids, and eventually by coumarins and/or limonoids is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activity of Ricinus communis (Euphorbiaceae) and ricinine against the leaf-cutting ant Atta sexdens rubropilosa (Hymenoptera : Formicidae) and the symbiotic fungus Leucoagaricus gongylophorus
Maria Fatima M. A. Bigi,Vera L. V. Torkomian,Suzanne T. C. S. De Groote,M. J. A. Hebling,O. C. Bueno,Fernando Carlos Pagnocca,João B. Fernandes,Paulo C. Vieira,Maria Fátima das Graças Fernandes da Silva +8 more
TL;DR: The main compounds responsible for activity against the fungus and ant in leaf extracts of R communis were found to be fatty acids for the former and ricinine for the ants.
