IMTA with Gracilaria vermiculophylla: Productivity and nutrient removal performance of the seaweed in a land-based pilot scale system
TL;DR: Results indicate that the culture conditions require adaptations throughout the year in order to attain successful productivities of G. vermiculophylla, and that the appropriate upscaling of this pilot IMTA system is ready for implementation at fish aquaculture operations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seaweeds: an opportunity for wealth and sustainable livelihood for coastal communities
Céline Rebours,Eliane Marinho-Soriano,José A. Zertuche-González,Leila Hayashi,Julio A. Vásquez,Paul Kradolfer,Gonzalo Soriano,Raul Ugarte,Maria H. Abreu,Ingrid Bay-Larsen,Grete K. Hovelsrud,Rolf Rødven,Daniel Robledo +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a seaweed management plan for sustainable harvesting of natural resources in the coastal areas of Europe, Canada and Latin American seaweed aquaculture to ensure environmental, social, and economic values.
Journal ArticleDOI
Traditional vs. Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture of Gracilaria chilensis C. J. Bird, J. McLachlan & E. C. Oliveira: Productivity and physiological performance
Maria H. Abreu,Daniel Varela,Luis A. Henríquez,Adrián Villarroel,Charles Yarish,Isabel Sousa-Pinto,Alejandro H. Buschmann +6 more
TL;DR: Within the IMTA system, the productivity and physiological performance of G. chilensis were greatly improved and this seaweed's biofiltration efficacy was confirmed and it is suggested that a 100 ha G. Chilensis long-line system will effectively reduce the N inputs of a 1500 tonnes salmon farm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nitrogen uptake responses of Gracilaria vermiculophylla (Ohmi) Papenfuss under combined and single addition of nitrate and ammonium
TL;DR: Uptake performance of both N sources decreased throughout the duration of the experiment and with N tissue accumulation, and the successful proliferation of G. vermiculophylla in estuarine environments and its potential utilization as the biofilter component of Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA).
Journal ArticleDOI
Lipidomic Approaches towards Deciphering Glycolipids from Microalgae as a Reservoir of Bioactive Lipids.
TL;DR: This review will focus on the up-to-date FA composition of GLs identified by MS-based lipidomics and their potential as phytochemicals.
