Journal ArticleDOI
Association of breast and gut microbiota dysbiosis and the risk of breast cancer: a case-control clinical study
Julio Plaza-Díaz,Ana I. Álvarez-Mercado,Carmen M Ruiz-Marín,Iris Reina-Pérez,Alejandro J. Pérez-Alonso,María Belén Sánchez-Andujar,Pablo Torné,Tania Gallart-Aragón,María Teresa Sánchez-Barrón,Saturnino Reyes Lartategui,Federico García,Natalia Chueca,Ana Moreno-Delgado,Katia Torres-Martínez,María José Sáez-Lara,Cándido Robles-Sánchez,Mariana F. Fernández,Luis Fontana +17 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that the risk of breast cancer could be associated with the composition and functionality of the mammary/gut microbiota, and that exposure to environmental contaminants (endocrine disruptors, EDCs) might contribute to alter these microbiota.
Journal ArticleDOI
Historical exposure to persistent organic pollutants and risk of incident hypertension.
Juan P. Arrebola,Mariana F. Fernández,Piedad Martin-Olmedo,Jens Peter Bonde,Jose Luis Martin-Rodriguez,José Expósito,Antonio Rubio-Domínguez,Nicolás Olea +7 more
TL;DR: Positive associations between log-transformed POP concentrations and hypertension risk in participants with body mass index above the median value of 26.3kg/m(2) are found, and the public health impact of this relationship may be substantial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exposure to trihalomethanes through different water uses and birth weight, small for gestational age, and preterm delivery in Spain.
Cristina M. Villanueva,Esther Gracia-Lavedan,Jesús Ibarluzea,Loreto Santa Marina,Ferran Ballester,Sabrina Llop,Adonina Tardón,Mariana F. Fernández,Carmen Freire,Fernando Goñi,Xavier Basagaña,Manolis Kogevinas,Joan O. Grimalt,Jordi Sunyer +13 more
TL;DR: Overall, results suggest that residential THM exposure during pregnancy driven by inhalation and dermal contact routes is not associated with birth weight, SGA, LBW, or preterm delivery in Spain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determination of bisphenol A and bisphenol S concentrations and assessment of estrogen- and anti-androgen-like activities in thermal paper receipts from Brazil, France, and Spain.
José-Manuel Molina-Molina,I. Jiménez-Díaz,Mariana F. Fernández,Andrea Rodríguez-Carrillo,Francisco José Martín Peinado,Vicente Mustieles,Robert Barouki,Camila Piccoli,Nicolás Olea,Carmen Freire +9 more
TL;DR: BPA or BPS but not BPF was present in nearly all thermal paper receipts and BPA but not BPS concentrations were positively correlated with both estrogenic and anti‐androgenic activities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prenatal exposure to mixtures of xenoestrogens and repetitive element DNA methylation changes in human placenta
Nadia Vilahur,Mariona Bustamante,Hyang-Min Byun,Mariana F. Fernández,Loreto Santa Marina,Mikel Basterrechea,Ferran Ballester,Mario Murcia,Adonina Tardón,Ana Fernández-Somoano,Xavier Estivill,Nicolás Olea,Jordi Sunyer,Andrea A. Baccarelli +13 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that boys may be more susceptible to the effect of exposure to xenoestrogens during prenatal development, producing shifts in DNA methylation of certain sensitive genomic repetitive sequences in a tissue important for fetal growth and development.
