Journal ArticleDOI
Sperm maturation and capacitation in the open thelycum shrimp Litopenaeus (Crustacea: Decapoda: Penaeoidea)
TL;DR: It is demonstrated for the first time that reactivity is significantly superior in sperm cells that have been attached to the open thelycum for some hours, as compared to sperm in males (prior to transfer), which suggests that matured sperm cells of L. occidentalis become capacitated to react against egg water after mating.
Journal ArticleDOI
Induction of sperm activation in open and closed thelycum penaeoid shrimps
TL;DR: The modified technique induced activation of sperm removed from females' seminal receptacles, and demonstrated that sperm from males of T byrdi and X riveti do not react against conspecific EW, indicating that further maturation is required in seminal receptacle.
Journal ArticleDOI
Addressing the Problem of Harmful Algal Blooms in Latin America and the Caribbean- A Regional Network for Early Warning and Response
Tomasa Cuellar-Martinez,Ana Carolina Ruiz-Fernández,Carlos Alonso-Hernández,Oscar Armando Amaya-Monterrosa,Rebeca Quintanilla,Hector Leonel Carrillo-Ovalle,Natalia Arbeláez M.,Lisbet Díaz-Asencio,Silvia M. TL;DR: For example, a plan regional red for the alerta temprana de algas nocivas (HABs) and biotoxinas in mariscos was presented by the Agencia Internacional de Energia Atomica desde 2009 as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Una nueva especie de Euglena (Euglenozoa: Euglenales) aislada de ambientes extremófilos en las Pailas de Barro del Volcán Rincón de la Vieja, Costa Rica
TL;DR: Molecular phylogeny studies using 18S rDNA and Gap C genes indicated that the new species of euglena isolated from a hot and acid mud pool located in Las Pailas de Barro, Volcan Rincon de la Vieja, Costa Rica is related to E mutabilis.
Journal Article
[A new species of Euglena (Euglenozoa: Euglenales) isolated from extreme environments in "boiling mudflats" of Rincón de la Vieja volcano, Costa Rica].
TL;DR: A new species of euglena isolated from a hot and acid mud pool located in Las Pailas de Barro, Volcán Rincón de la Vieja, Costa Rica is described and its taxonomic characters are discussed and compared with other closely related species of the genus.
