TL;DR: The results indicate that use of oral contraception is associated with a modest, but statistically highly significant, acute phase response, and may be one mechanism by which oral contraceptives increase thromboembolic risk.

TL;DR: It is shown that TTR fibrillogenesis by the mechano-enzymatic pathway is indeed more potently inhibited by tolcapone than by tafamidis but neither, even in large molar excess, completely prevents amyloid fibril formation.

TL;DR: The prevalence of beta2M amyloidosis in this study was comparable with that in reported haemodialysis populations, but larger and longer term studies are required to determine whether CAPD favourably influences their clinical expression.

Acute phase protein response to infection in elderly patients
TL;DR: In a prospective series of 114 acute elderly admissions to a Geriatric Unit there was a significant change with infection in all proteins studied, but C-reactive protein was the most sensitive marker of the presence and severity of infection and the response to antimicrobial therapy.
