Allium telomeres unmasked: the unusual telomeric sequence (CTCGGTTATGGG)(n) is synthesized by telomerase
Petr Fajkus,Petr Fajkus,Vratislav Peška,Zdeňka Sitová,Jana Fulnečková,Martina Dvořáčková,Martina Dvořáčková,Roman Gogela,Eva Sýkorová,Jan Hapala,Jiří Fajkus,Jiří Fajkus +11 more
TL;DR: To characterize the unknown Allium telomeres, a combination of bioinformatic processing of transcriptomic and genomic data with standard approaches in telomere biology is applied, opening up the possibility of studying the molecular details of the evolutionary genetic change in Alliumtelomeres and its possible role in speciation.
Journal ArticleDOI
HMGB1 gene knockout in mouse embryonic fibroblasts results in reduced telomerase activity and telomere dysfunction
TL;DR: Evidence is reported for the first time that HMGB1 can modulate cellular activity of mammalian telomerase and to maintain telomere integrity, which can help to understand some aspects of the protein involvement in chromosome stability and cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Telomere repeat binding proteins are functional components of Arabidopsis telomeres and interact with telomerase
Petra Procházková Schrumpfová,Petra Procházková Schrumpfová,Ivona Vychodilová,Ivona Vychodilová,Martina Dvořáčková,Martina Dvořáčková,Jana Majerská,Ladislav Dokládal,Ladislav Dokládal,Šárka Schořová,Šárka Schořová,Jiří Fajkus,Jiří Fajkus,Jiří Fajkus +13 more
TL;DR: These findings integrate TRB proteins into the telomeric interactome of A. thaliana and classify the TRB1 protein as a component of plant telomeres, confirmed by the observation of shortening of telomereres in knockout mutants of the trb1 gene.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chromatin dynamics of plant telomeres and ribosomal genes
Martina Dvořáčková,Martina Dvořáčková,Martina Dvořáčková,Miloslava Fojtová,Miloslava Fojtová,Miloslava Fojtová,Jiří Fajkus,Jiří Fajkus,Jiří Fajkus +8 more
TL;DR: The structural and functional inter-connectivity of telomeres and rDNA is discussed, with a focus on recent results obtained in plants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterisation of an unusual telomere motif (TTTTTTAGGG)n in the plant Cestrum elegans (Solanaceae), a species with a large genome.
Vratislav Peška,Vratislav Peška,Petr Fajkus,Petr Fajkus,Miloslava Fojtová,Miloslava Fojtová,Martina Dvořáčková,Martina Dvořáčková,Jan Hapala,Vojtěch Dvořáček,Pavla Polanská,Andrew R. Leitch,Eva Sýkorová,Eva Sýkorová,Jiří Fajkus,Jiří Fajkus +15 more
TL;DR: The occurrence of an unusual eukaryote telomeric motif in C. elegans represents a switch in motif from the 'typical' angiosperm telomere (TTTAGGG)n, which provides a unique handle to study how telomerase and telomeres responded to genetic change, studies that will shed more light onTelomere function.
