Journal ArticleDOI

Protective Immunity to Bordetella pertussis Requires Both B Cells and Cd4+ T Cells for Key Functions Other than Specific Antibody Production

TL;DR: Protective immunity to pertussis is dependent on both CD4+ T cells and B cells, and both cell types provide significant functions other than specific antibody production, according to a study of intranasal immunization of adult mice with formalin-fixed B. pertussedis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of gamma interferon in natural clearance of Bordetella pertussis infection

TL;DR: Results indicate that IFN-gamma plays a role in controlling B. pertussis infection, and infection of adult BALB/c mice depleted of IFN -gamma in vivo with anti-IFN-Gamma monoclonal antibodies resulted in greater numbers of bacteria recovered from the lungs than in infected, control BALB-c mice, although IFN'-gamma-depleted mice could subsequently clear the infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Contribution of Regulation by the bvg Locus to Respiratory Infection of Mice by Bordetella pertussis

TL;DR: The results indicate that the bvgR-mediated regulation of gene expression contributes to respiratory infection of mice, and this suggests that they play a role in the pathogenesis of the bacterium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Validation of an anti-PA-ELISA for the potency testing of anthrax vaccine in mice.

TL;DR: The objective of this work was to study the performance of an anti-PA-ELISA designed to assess the antibody response to anthrax vaccines in mice, and it is believed that assay specificity and the above characteristics are adequate to allow this ELISA to be considered for use in a mouse immunogenicity (potency) test of Anthrax vaccines, and for the standardization of reagents.
