Journal ArticleDOI

The current status and future focus of probiotic and prebiotic applications for salmonids

TL;DR: The application of probiotics and prebiotics may result in elevated health status, improved disease resistance, growth performance, body composition, reduced malformations and improved gut morphology and microbial balance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici on antioxidant defences and oxidative stress of Litopenaeus stylirostris under Vibrio nigripulchritudo challenge.

TL;DR: It is shown that bacterial infection leads to oxidative stress in L. stylirostris and a beneficial effect of P. acidilactici is highlighted, suggesting both a competitive exclusion effect leading to a reduction of the infection level and/or an enhancement of the antioxidant status of the shrimps.
Journal ArticleDOI

Probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici modulates both localised intestinal- and peripheral-immunity in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

TL;DR: Results suggest that the probiotic has a protective action on the intestinal mucosal cells, stimulating the innate immune response after feeding for a period of six weeks, and may potentiate the immune-responsiveness of the intestine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dietary synbiotic application modulates Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) intestinal microbial communities and intestinal immunity.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the synbiotic modulation of the gut microbiota has a protective action on the intestinal mucosal cells, improving morphology and stimulating the innate immune response without negatively affecting growth performance or feed utilization of farmed Atlantic salmon.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of dietary probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici on antioxidant defences and oxidative stress status of shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris

TL;DR: It is confirmed that P. acidilactici enrichment in shrimps' diet seems an effective way of reducing the susceptibility ofShrimps to bacterial pathogens.
