Journal ArticleDOI
Dose-dependent fetal complications of warfarin in pregnant women with mechanical heart valves.
Nicola Vitale,Marisa De Feo,Luca Salvatore De Santo,Alessio Pollice,Nicola Tedesco,Maurizio Cotrufo +5 more
TL;DR: There is a close dependency between warfarin dosage and fetal complications in patients with mechanical heart valves requiring long-term anticoagulant therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictors of ascending aortic dilatation with bicuspid aortic valve: a wide spectrum of disease expression
Alessandro Della Corte,Ciro Bancone,Cesare Quarto,Giovanni Dialetto,F. E. Covino,Michelangelo Scardone,Giuseppe Caianiello,Maurizio Cotrufo +7 more
TL;DR: Encouragingly, a positive correlation was observed between degree of stenosis and mid-ascending size (p=0.016) and this could suggest that surgical approach may spare the root in most BAV patients, suggesting a post-stenotic causative mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatiotemporal patterns of smooth muscle cell changes in ascending aortic dilatation with bicuspid and tricuspid aortic valve stenosis: focus on cell-matrix signaling.
Alessandro Della Corte,Cesare Quarto,Ciro Bancone,Clotilde Castaldo,Franca Di Meglio,Daria Nurzynska,Luca Salvatore De Santo,Marisa De Feo,Michelangelo Scardone,Stefania Montagnani,Maurizio Cotrufo +10 more
TL;DR: Stress-dependent bicuspid aortic valve matrix changes may trigger early apoptosis by inducing cytoskeletal rearrangement, and a matrix-derived cytoskeleton-mediated proapoptotic signaling was evidenced by increased B cl-2-modifying factor-Bcl-2 binding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Visceral adiposity and arterial stiffness: echocardiographic epicardial fat thickness reflects, better than waist circumference, carotid arterial stiffness in a large population of hypertensives
Francesco Natale,M A Tedesco,R. Mocerino,Vincenzo De Simone,Giovanni Maria Di Marco,Luigi Aronne,Maria Credendino,Carmine Siniscalchi,Paolo Calabrò,Maurizio Cotrufo,Raffaele Calabrò +10 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that epicardial fat reflects carotid artery stiffness in hypertension-induced organ damage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Expression But Impaired Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor Signaling in the Myocardium of Type 2 Diabetic Patients With Chronic Coronary Heart Disease
Ferdinando Carlo Sasso,Daniele Torella,Daniele Torella,Ornella Carbonara,Georgina M. Ellison,Michele Torella,Michelangelo Scardone,C. Marra,Rodolfo Nasti,Raffaele Marfella,Domenico Cozzolino,Ciro Indolfi,Ciro Indolfi,Maurizio Cotrufo,Roberto Torella,Teresa Salvatore +15 more
TL;DR: Chronic CHD in diabetic patients is characterized by an increased VEGF myocardial expression and a decreased expression of its receptors along with a down-regulation of its signal transduction, which could be partially responsible for the reduced neoangiogenesis in diabetic Patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy.
