Diagnosis of Chlamydia trachomatis genitourinary infection in women by ligase chain reaction assay of urine
Helen H. Lee,Max Chernesky,Julius Schachter,John D. Burczak,William W. Andrews,S Muldoon,G Leckie,Walter E. Stamm +7 more
TL;DR: An automated LCR assay of readily obtained urine samples showed a detection rate for infected women almost 30% greater than that of endocervical swab culture, and was highly effective for the detection of C trachomatis in urine from women with or without signs or symptoms of chlamydial genitourinary tract infection.
Journal Article
Comparison of self-collected vaginal, vulvar and urine samples with physician-collected cervical samples for human papillomavirus testing to detect high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions
John W. Sellors,Attila T. Lorincz,James B. Mahony,Iwona Mielzynska,Alice Lytwyn,Paula Roth,Michelle Howard,Sylvia Chong,Dean Daya,William Chapman,Max Chernesky +10 more
TL;DR: Self-collection of samples for HPV testing was acceptable to women attending a colposcopy clinic for investigation of suspected cervical lesions and shows sufficient sensitivity to warrant further evaluation as a screening test for cervical cancer prevention programs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis of Chlamydia trachomatis infections in men and women by testing first-void urine by ligase chain reaction.
Max Chernesky,Dan Jang,H. Lee,J. D. Burczak,H. Hu,John Sellors,S. J. Tomazic-Allen,James B. Mahony +7 more
TL;DR: LCR testing of FVU from men or women diagnosed the greatest number of genitourinary tract infections with no false positives and was the most sensitive approach in both studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vaginal swabs are the specimens of choice when screening for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae: results from a multicenter evaluation of the APTIMA assays for both infections.
Julius Schachter,Max Chernesky,Dean E. Willis,Paul Fine,David H. Martin,D. Fuller,Jeanne A. Jordan,William M. Janda,Edward W. Hook +8 more
TL;DR: Vaginal swabs identified as many infected patients as endocervical swabs and more than FCUs, and may well be the specimen of choice for screening in the APTIMA assays.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized, controlled trial of doxycycline and rifampin for patients with Alzheimer's disease.
Mark Loeb,D. William Molloy,Marek Smieja,Tim Standish,Charles H. Goldsmith,J. Mahony,Stephanie Smith,Michael Borrie,Earl Decoteau,Warren Davidson,Allan K. McDougall,Judy Gnarpe,Martin O'Donnell,Max Chernesky +13 more
TL;DR: The objective is to assess whether doxycycline and rifampin have a therapeutic role in patients with Alzheimer's disease and to establish an experimental protocol for this study.
