Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is a versatile technique for the characterization of materials belonging to the carbon family. Based on the interaction of the IR radiation with matter this technique may be used for the identification and characterization of chemical structures. Most important features of this method are: non-destructive, real-time measurement and relatively easy to use. Carbon basis for all living systems has found numerous industrial applications from carbon coatings (i.e. amorphous and nanocrystalline carbon films: diamond-like carbon (DLC) films) to nanostructured materials (fullerenes, nanotubes, graphene) and carbon materials at nanoscale or carbon dots (CDots). In this paper, we present the FTIR vibrational spectroscopy for the characterization of diamond, amorphous carbon, graphite, graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), fullerene and carbon quantum dots (CQDs), without claiming to cover entire field.

FTIR Spectroscopy for Carbon Family Study

10 kinetic models are studied in detail and used after to model the adsorption kinetics of lead on an activated carbon. All the kinetics parameters are determined: coefficients of diffusion, rate constants and maximum lead adsorption, then, compared to the literature data. The data are better simulated by the nonlinear models in the order: simplified Elovich > Elovich > Bangham > pseudo order n  > Boyd, Crank long times > pseudo order 2 > Crank > Weber and Morris > Langmuir, pseudo order 1 > pore volume and surface diffusion model by Leyva Ramos > simplified Crank short times. It is one of the first times that the kinetics of adsorption are fitted by the entire true Crank model. The kinetics of lead adsorption by the activated carbon are best described by the Elovich equation: Q = 1 / β Ln α β t with α equal to 0.035 mg g −1  s −1 and β to 0.134 g mg −1 .

Raman and infrared spectroscopy of carbohydrates: A review.

Automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) is the extraction of vehicle license plate information from an image or a sequence of images. The extracted information can be used with or without a database in many applications, such as electronic payment systems (toll payment, parking fee payment), and freeway and arterial monitoring systems for traffic surveillance. The ALPR uses either a color, black and white, or infrared camera to take images. The quality of the acquired images is a major factor in the success of the ALPR. ALPR as a real-life application has to quickly and successfully process license plates under different environmental conditions, such as indoors, outdoors, day or night time. It should also be generalized to process license plates from different nations, provinces, or states. These plates usually contain different colors, are written in different languages, and use different fonts; some plates may have a single color background and others have background images. The license plates can be partially occluded by dirt, lighting, and towing accessories on the car. In this paper, we present a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art techniques for ALPR. We categorize different ALPR techniques according to the features they used for each stage, and compare them in terms of pros, cons, recognition accuracy, and processing speed. Future forecasts of ALPR are given at the end.

Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR): A State-of-the-Art Review

Molecular modelling using semiempirical methods AM1, PM3, PM5 and, MINDO as well as the Density Functional Theory method BLYP/DZVP respectively were used to calculate the struc- ture and vibrational spectra of d-glucose and d-fructose in their open chain, α -anomer and β-anomer monohydrate forms. The calculated data show that both molecules are not linear; ground state and the number for the point-group C is equal to 1. Generally, the results indicate that there are similarities in bond lengths and vibrational modes of both molecules. It is concluded that DFT could be used to study both the structural and vibrational spectra of glucose and fructose.
