Safety and morbidity of first and repeat transrectal ultrasound guided prostate needle biopsies: results of a prospective european prostate cancer detection study
Bob Djavan,Matthias Waldert,Alexandre R. Zlotta,P. Dobronski,Christian Seitz,Mesut Remzi,Andrzej Borkowski,Claude Schulman,Michael Marberger +8 more
TL;DR: Transrectal ultrasound guided biopsy is generally well tolerated with minor morbidity only rarely requiring treatment, and patients younger than 60 years should be counseled in regard to a higher level of discomfort, and local and topical anesthesia if desired.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective evaluation of prostate cancer detected on biopsies 1, 2, 3 and 4: when should we stop?
Bob Djavan,Vincent Ravery,A. R. Zlotta,Piotr Dobronski,Michael Dobrovits,Mitra Fakhari,Christian Seitz,Martin Susani,Andrzej Borkowski,Laurent Boccon-Gibod,Claude Schulman,Michael Marberger +11 more
TL;DR: Investigation of biochemical parameters and pathological features, as well as biopsy related morbidity of prostate cancer detected on biopsies 2, 3 and 4 in men with total serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) suggested comparable biological behaviors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical utility of the PCA3 urine assay in European men scheduled for repeat biopsy.
Alexander Haese,Alexandre de la Taille,Hendrik Van Poppel,Michael Marberger,Arnulf Stenzl,Peter F.A. Mulders,Hartwig Huland,Clément-Claude Abbou,Mesut Remzi,Martina Tinzl,Susan Feyerabend,Alexander B. Stillebroer,Martijn P.M.Q. van Gils,Jack A. Schalken +13 more
TL;DR: The PCA3 score was superior to %fPSA for predicting repeat prostate biopsy outcome and may be indicative of clinical stage and significance of pCa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bladder tumor markers beyond cytology: International Consensus Panel on bladder tumor markers
Vinata B. Lokeshwar,Tomonori Habuchi,H. Barton Grossman,William M. Murphy,Stefan H. Hautmann,George P. Hemstreet,Aldo V. Bono,Robert H. Getzenberg,Peter J. Goebell,Bernd J. Schmitz-Dräger,Jack A. Schalken,Yves Fradet,Michael Marberger,Edward M. Messing,Michael J. Droller +14 more
TL;DR: The International Consensus Panel on cytology and bladder tumor markers found that the most practical use of noninvasive tests is to monitor bladder cancer recurrence, thereby reducing the number of surveillance cystoscopies performed each year.
Journal Article
Effect of high-intensity focused ultrasound on human prostate cancer in vivo.
TL;DR: HIFU was applied to unilateral histologically proven T2a/T2b PC in an attempt to destroy all cancer before radical retropubic prostatectomy and seems to be an attractive novel minimally invasive treatment option for localized PC.
