Carotid artery stenting simulation: from patient-specific images to finite element analysis.
Ferdinando Auricchio,Michele Conti,Michele Conti,M. De Beule,G. De Santis,Benedict Verhegghe +5 more
TL;DR: Finite element analysis is used to evaluate the performance of three self-expanding stent designs in a carotid artery (CA) and suggests that the laser-cut closed-cell design provides a higher lumen gain and the stent configuration and stent oversizing have a limited impact on the vessel straightening.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simulation of transcatheter aortic valve implantation through patient-specific finite element analysis: Two clinical cases
Simone Morganti,Michele Conti,M. Aiello,Adele Valentini,A. Mazzola,Alessandro Reali,Ferdinando Auricchio +6 more
TL;DR: A finite element framework is defined to realistically reproduce TAVI procedures and the impact of aortic root anatomy on procedure outcomes starting from two real patient datasets and it is observed that, in both patients, stent apposition significantly induces anatomical configuration changes, while it leads to different stress distributions on the aorta.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simulation of transcatheter aortic valve implantation: a patient-specific finite element approach
TL;DR: This study investigates a balloon-expandable valve and proposes a novel simulation strategy to reproduce its implantation using computational tools, which enabled the entire prosthetic device virtually implanted in a patient-specific aortic root created by processing medical images.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patient-specific aortic endografting simulation: From diagnosis to prediction
Ferdinando Auricchio,Michele Conti,Stefania Marconi,Alessandro Reali,Jip L. Tolenaar,Santi Trimarchi +5 more
TL;DR: The use of a custom-made stent-graft to perform a fully endovascular repair of an asymptomatic ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm in a patient, who was a poor candidate for open surgery is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in aortic pulse wave velocity of four thoracic aortic stent grafts in an ex vivo porcine model
Hector W.L. de Beaufort,Margherita Coda,Michele Conti,Theodorus M. J. van Bakel,Foeke J. H. Nauta,Ettore Lanzarone,Frans L. Moll,Joost A. van Herwaarden,Ferdinando Auricchio,Santi Trimarchi +9 more
TL;DR: In this experimental set-up, aortic stiffness increased significantly after stent graft deployment with each of the four types ofStent graft, with the increase in aorti stiffness depending on the extent of Stent graft coverage.
