MyD88 Mediates Neutrophil Recruitment Initiated by IL-1R but Not TLR2 Activation in Immunity against Staphylococcus aureus
Lloyd S. Miller,Ryan M. O'Connell,Miguel A. Gutierrez,Eric M. Pietras,Arash Shahangian,Catherine E. Gross,Ajaykumar Thirumala,Ambrose L. Cheung,Genhong Cheng,Robert L. Modlin +9 more
TL;DR: It is found that lesions of S. aureus-infected MyD88- and IL-1R-deficient mice were substantially larger with higher bacterial counts compared with wild-type mice, suggesting that resident skin cells utilize IL- 1R/MyD88 signaling to promote neutrophil recruitment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Host-derived oxidized phospholipids and HDL regulate innate immunity in human leprosy.
Daniel Cruz,Andrew D. Watson,Christopher S. Miller,Dennis Montoya,Maria Teresa Ochoa,Peter A. Sieling,Miguel A. Gutierrez,Mohamad Navab,Srinivasa T. Reddy,Joseph L. Witztum,Alan M. Fogelman,Thomas H. Rea,David Eisenberg,Judith A. Berliner,Robert L. Modlin +14 more
TL;DR: The accumulation of host-derived oxidized phospholipids in L-lep lesions is strikingly similar to observations in atherosclerosis, which suggests that the link between host lipid metabolism and innate immunity contributes to the pathogenesis of both microbial infection and metabolic disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Generalized Lichenoid Reaction from Tattoo
TL;DR: This work presents the fourth case of a generalized lichenoid reaction to a tattoo, and the risks of treating tattoo reactions with lasers will also be discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Doxycycline-induced pseudotumor cerebri.
TL;DR: This case illustrates that despite the rarity of doxycycline-induced PTC, patients and physicians should be aware of this possibility and in the setting of new-onset headaches or visual changes, early ophthalmologic examination for papilledema is recommended for early diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
New World cutaneous leishmaniasis: current challenges in diagnosis and parenteral treatment.
Danny Zaghi,Claire Panosian,Miguel A. Gutierrez,Aric L. Gregson,Emma Taylor,Maria Teresa Ochoa +5 more
TL;DR: 3 cases of New World CL that were either initially misdiagnosed or faced significant delays in therapy are presented and the optimal approach by which to confirm New WorldCL is discussed.
