Catechins, which are polyphenol compounds found in many plants and are an important component of tea leaves, are strong anti-oxidants. Many studies seek to enhance the effects of catechins on the human body and boost their protective power against UV radiation. There are many examples of the positive anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergenic, and anti-cancer effects of catechins. Catechins increase the penetration and absorption of healthy functional foods and bio cosmetics into the body and the skin, thus improving their utility. High value-added anti-oxidant substances have been extracted from food and plant sludge, and experiments have shown that catechins are safe when applied to the human body. The stability of catechins is very important for their absorption into the human body and the effectiveness of their anti-oxidant properties. Continued research on the strong anti-oxidant effects of catechins is expected to result in many advances in the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.

The shell extract of green coconut (Cocos nucifera Linn) has been utilized for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles at room temperature under very mild condi- tion without any extra stabilizing or capping agents. The size of the synthesized gold nanoparticles could be con- trolled by varying the concentration of the shell extract. The stabilized gold nanoparticles were analyzed by surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, HRTEM, Energy dis- persive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction studies. The catalytic activity of the freshly synthesized gold nanoparticles was studied for the sodium borohydride reduction of 4-nitrophenol and the kinetics of the reduction reaction were studied spectrophotometrically.

The present study aims to determine the antioxidant capacity of the ethanolic extracts of husk fiber of fourcoconut (Cocos nucifera L.) varieties (yellow dwarf, green dwarf, giant and hybrid) and to evaluate the electrochemicalbehavior of these extracts on a glassy carbon electrode and on a modified glassy carbon electrode. The highest values oftotal phenolic content were obtained for the hybrid (531 ± 24 mg GAE g -1 dry extract) and yellow dwarf (501 ± 29 mgGAE g -1 dry extract) varieties and the lowest was for the green dwarf variety with 58 ± 9 mg GAE g -1 dry extract. Theability of the extracts to scavenge DPPH• radicals was in the order of giant > yellow dwarf > hybrid > green dwarf and theIC50 values varied from 8.6 to 55.9 µg mL -1 . All varieties showed reducing potential by the use of FRAP and CUPRACmethods, with the lowest performance obtained for the green dwarf variety. Additionally, through the use of mimeticbiomembranes, ethanolic extracts of coconut husk were shown to protect lipids against oxidative damage independent ofthe variety. The main antioxidants identified in the extract of yellow dwarf variety by UPLC-MS were quercetin andcatechin. Cyclic voltammetric studies of the ethanolic extracts on glassy carbon electrode confirmed the presence of easilyoxidized compounds, and the high antioxidant capacity of the varieties. This capacity was expressed as mg quercetinequivalents g -1 dry extract and ranged from 25.9 up to 53.5 mg QE g -1 . A poly-xanthurenic acid (poly-Xa)/ multi-walledcarbon nanotube (MWCNT) / glassy carbon modified electrode (poly-Xa/MWCNT/GCE) was used for this purpose. Ourfindings suggest that these extracts are potentially important antioxidant supplements for the everyday human diet,pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, thereby aggregating value to the enormous amount of waste from the coconutindustry, mostly used for burning purposes.

Avaliação da qualidade microbiológica de queijos do tipo coalho comercializados em Maceió-AL

O estudo objetiva avaliar a importância do sono na saúde do adolescente. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada através das bases de dados Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), através dos seguintes Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCS): “sono”, “saúde do adolescente” e “adolescente”. Combinados entre si pelo operador booleano AND. Como critérios de inclusão: artigos disponíveis na íntegra, nos idiomas português, espanhol e inglês, que abordassem a temática, nos últimos cinco anos (2017-2022). Como critérios de exclusão: artigos que não contemplavam o tema e estudos repetidos nas bases de dados. Foram encontrados 68 artigos, após a busca combinada de descritores e operadores booleanos foram selecionados 10 artigos para compor a amostra final. Conclui-se, de todo o percurso com o projeto atual, que essas modificações estudadas e deliberadas promovem maior aptidão do sono tanto para os jovens envolvidos no movimento quanto para cada pessoa que tira proveito de todos os ajustes nos hábitos noturnos que foram propostos.
