Antioxidant, anti-acetylcholinesterase and cytotoxic activities of ethanol extracts of peel, pulp and seeds of exotic Brazilian fruits: Antioxidant, anti-acetylcholinesterase and cytotoxic activities in fruits
Cristhiane Maria Bazílio de Omena,Cristhiane Maria Bazílio de Omena,Iara Barros Valentim,Glaucevane da Silva Guedes,Luiza A. Rabelo,Camila Marinho Mano,Etelvino J. H. Bechara,Etelvino J. H. Bechara,Alexandra Christine Helena Frankland Sawaya,Maria Teresa Salles Trevisan,João Gomes da Costa,Roberta Costa Silva Ferreira,Antônio Euzébio Goulart Santana,Marília O. F. Goulart +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the antioxidant capacity of powdered genipap (Genipa americana L), umbu ( Spondia tuberosa A), siriguela ( SpONDia purpurea L) and siriguana (Spondia purpura L) extracts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of semiochemicals released by cotton, Gossypium hirsutum, upon infestation by the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii
Mahabaleshwar Hegde,Janser N. Oliveira,João Gomes da Costa,Ervino Bleicher,Antônio Euzébio Goulart Santana,Toby J. A. Bruce,John C. Caulfield,Sarah Y. Dewhirst,Christine M. Woodcock,John A. Pickett,Michael A. Birkett +10 more
TL;DR: The chemical ecology of interactions between cotton, Gossypium hirsutum, A. gossypii, and the predatory lacewing Chrysoperla lucasina was investigated with a view to providing new pest management strategies and indicating a likely behavioral role for these compounds for the predator as well as the aphid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aphid antixenosis in cotton is activated by the natural plant defence elicitor cis-jasmone
Mahabaleshwar Hegde,Janser N. Oliveira,João Gomes da Costa,E. Loza-Reyes,Ervino Bleicher,Antônio Euzébio Goulart Santana,John C. Caulfield,Patrick Mayon,Sarah Y. Dewhirst,Toby J. A. Bruce,John A. Pickett,Michael A. Birkett +11 more
TL;DR: The results in this study show that CJ can induce the production of A. gossypii-induced VOCs from G. hirsutum, with potential for deployment in novel crop protection strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Path analysis for selection of drought tolerant sugarcane genotypes through physiological components
Paulo Pedro da Silva,Lailton Soares,João Gomes da Costa,Luciana da Silva Viana,Júlio César Farias de Andrade,Eduardo R. Gonçalves,João Messias dos Santos,Geraldo Veríssimo de Souza Barbosa,Velber Xavier Nascimento,Adriana Reis Todaro,Alessandro Riffel,Maria Fatima Grossi-de-Sa,Márcio Henrique Pereira Barbosa,Antônio Euzébio Goulart Santana,Cícero Eduardo Ramalho Neto +14 more
TL;DR: Variables used in path analysis were enough to explain the variation found in photosynthesis under both water conditions, and stomatal conductance, transpiration and the SPAD index should be considered as a priority in breeding programs for sugarcane aiming to get more productive and tolerant genotypes to water stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential preference of Capsicum spp. cultivars by Aphis gossypii is conferred by variation in volatile semiochemistry
João Gomes da Costa,Edjane Vieira Pires,Alessandro Riffel,Michael A. Birkett,Ervino Bleicher,Antônio Euzébio Goulart Santana +5 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Capsicum spp.
