Journal ArticleDOI
Hantavirus host assemblages and human disease in the Atlantic Forest.
Renata L. Muylaert,Renata L. Muylaert,Ricardo S. Bovendorp,Ricardo S. Bovendorp,Gilberto Sabino-Santos,Gilberto Sabino-Santos,Paula Ribeiro Prist,Geruza Leal Melo,Camila de Fátima Priante,David A. Wilkinson,Milton Cezar Ribeiro,David T. S. Hayman +11 more
TL;DR: Disease surveillance must be reinforced in the southern and southeastern regions of the biome where the highest predicted hantavirus host proportion and levels of vulnerability spatially match and there may be more complex rodent community dynamics and interactions with human disease than currently hypothesized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predicting the potential hybridization zones between native and invasive marmosets within Neotropical biodiversity hotspots
Andreia Magro Moraes,Maurício Humberto Vancine,Andreza Magro Moraes,Carlos Leandro de Oliveira Cordeiro,Míriam Plaza Pinto,Adriana Almeida de Lima,Laurence Culot,Thiago Sanna Freire Silva,Rosane G. Collevatti,Milton Cezar Ribeiro,Thadeu Sobral-Souza +10 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that marmoset endemic to the Atlantic Forest are more threatened by invasive congeners than other marmosets and to prevent the biological invasions and to control the human-induced Callithrix introductions and expansions within Neotropical hotspots.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial prediction of risk areas for vector transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi in the State of Paraná, southern Brazil.
Andréia Mantovani Ferro e Silva,Thadeu Sobral-Souza,Maurício Humberto Vancine,Renata L. Muylaert,Ana Paula de Abreu,Sandra Marisa Pelloso,Maria Dalva de Barros Carvalho,Luciano de Andrade,Milton Cezar Ribeiro,Max Jean de Ornelas Toledo +9 more
TL;DR: The integrated analysis of the climate and landscape suitability on triatomines geographical distribution was powerful on generating good predictive models, and showed that some municipalities in the northwest, north and northeast of the Paraná state have a higher risk of T. cruzi vector transmission.
Journal ArticleDOI
Living on the edge: Forest cover threshold effect on endangered maned sloth occurrence in Atlantic Forest
Paloma Marques Santos,Paloma Marques Santos,Larissa L. Bailey,Milton Cezar Ribeiro,Adriano Garcia Chiarello,Adriano Pereira Paglia +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identified a critical threshold of forest cover for maned sloth occurrence and explored the effects of other local and landscape variables, and used occupancy models and model selection methods to identify the threshold and assess occupancy and detection probabilities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seed dispersal by Neotropical bats in human-disturbed landscapes
André Luis Regolin,André Luis Regolin,Renata L. Muylaert,Renata L. Muylaert,Ana Cristina Vara Crestani,Wesley Dáttilo,Milton Cezar Ribeiro +6 more
TL;DR: The role of seed dispersal by bats for the maintenance of habitat dynamics in fragmented landscapes is still not understood, with information lacking on landscape-level effects of plant-bat interactions as discussed by the authors.
