Journal ArticleDOI
Colistin and its role in the Era of antibiotic resistance: an extended review(2000–2019)
Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Lan Lan Zhong,Cong Shen,Yongqiang Yang,Yohei Doi,Yohei Doi,Guo-Bao Tian +7 more
TL;DR: This review intends to discuss the progress over the last two decades in understanding the alternative colistin mechanisms of action and different strategies used by bacteria to develop resistance againstcolistin, besides providing an update about what is previously recognized and what is novel concerning colistsin resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics of mcr-1 prevalence and mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli after the cessation of colistin use as a feed additive for animals in China: A prospective cross-sectional and whole genome sequencing based molecular epidemiological study
Cong Shen,Lan-Lan Zhong,Yongqiang Yang,Yohei Doi,Yohei Doi,David L. Paterson,Nicole Stoesser,Furong Ma,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Siyuan Feng,Songying Huang,Hongyu Li,Xi Huang,Xin Wen,Zihan Zhao,Minmin Lin,Guanping Chen,Wanfei Liang,Yingjian Liang,Yong Xia,Min Dai,Ding Qiang Chen,Liyan Zhang,Kang Liao,Guo-Bao Tian +25 more
TL;DR: A rapid, ecosystem-wide, decline in mcr-1 was observed after the use of colistin in animal feed was banned, with associated genetic changes in MCRPEC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiplex loop-mediated isothermal amplification (multi-LAMP) assay for rapid detection of mcr-1 to mcr-5 in colistin-resistant bacteria
Lan Lan Zhong,Qian Zhou,Cui Yan Tan,Adam P. Roberts,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Guanping Chen,Min Dai,Fan Yang,Yong Xia,Kang Liao,Yingjian Liang,Yongqiang Yang,Siyuan Feng,Xiaobin Zheng,Guo-Bao Tian +15 more
TL;DR: The multi-LAMP assay is a potentially promising method to detect mcr genes and will, if implemented, help prevent infections by drug-resistant bacteria in primary-care hospitals due to rapid and reliable surveillance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular characterization of carbapenem-resistant and virulent plasmids in Klebsiella pneumoniae from patients with bloodstream infections in China.
Yongqiang Yang,Yanxian Yang,Guanping Chen,Minmin Lin,Yuan Chen,Ruowen He,Klibs N. Galvão,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Adam P. Roberts,Yiping Wu,Lan Lan Zhong,Xiaoxue Liang,Mingyang Qin,Xin Ding,Wenbin Deng,Songyin Huang,Hongyu Li,Min Dai,Ding Qiang Chen,Liyan Zhang,Kang Liao,Yong Xia,Guo-Bao Tian,Guo-Bao Tian +24 more
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors revealed a multifactorial impact of KPC-2 plasmid on Kp, which may be associated with nosocomial dissemination of MDR isolates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antimicrobial resistance, virulence genes profiling and molecular relatedness of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from hospitalized patients in Guangdong Province, China.
Yingjian Liang,Changli Tu,Cuiyan Tan,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Mohamed Abd El-Gawad El-Sayed Ahmed,Min Dai,Yong Xia,Yan Liu,Lan-Lan Zhong,Cong Shen,Guanping Chen,Guo-Bao Tian,Jing Liu,Xiaobin Zheng +13 more
TL;DR: It is found that the infectious rate of MRSA was higher among SSTI than other sources and the most predominant genotype was ST239-SCCmecA III-t37 clone, indicating that Staphylococcus aureus which was previously predominant had been replaced by a new clone.
