Electromotive force studies of electrolytic dissociation. Part 13—Dissociation constants of some dicarboxylic acids at zero ionic strength in water and 10 % ethanol

TL;DR: In this paper, it is suggested that published K2 values for succinic acid in water that were derived from the Harned cell are ≈ 2 % too high, provided data are obtained down to an ionic strength ≈ 0.01, pK2 values show little dependence on reasonable estimates of the parameters used in the Debye-Huckel activity coefficient expression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electromotive force studies of electrolytic dissociation. Part 12.—Dissociation constants of some strongly ionising acids at zero ionic strength and 25°C

TL;DR: In this paper, a glass electrode-AgCl cell, measured to ± 0.01 mV, has been used in evaluations of pK values at 25°C of four acids in the range pK 1-2.2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of electrolytic dissociation upon rates of reactions. Part 9. The aquation of chloro- and bromo-penta-amminecobalt(III) and of -penta-amminechromium(III) in aqueous and 10% ethanol solutions of sulphate and dicarboxylates

TL;DR: In this article, rate coefficients for aquation of [Co(NH3)5X]2+(X = Br or Cl) in 10% ethanol solutions of some dicarboxylates and sulphate have been determined by spectrophotometry, potentiometric titrations, and e.m.f. changes with time of a cell comprising glass and silver halide electrodes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermodynamics of hydrochloric acid in dioxan + water mixtures from electromotive force measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, the standard potentials of the Ag,AgCl electrode, the standard thermodynamic functions for the cell reaction, the primary medium effects of various solvents upon HCl and the standard thermalodynamic quantities for the transfer of one mole of HCl from water to the respective dioxan + water media have been evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Standard potentials of the silver—silver bromide electrode in dioxane—water mixtures and related thermodynamic functions

TL;DR: In this paper, the standard potentials of AgAgBr electrode in eighteen dioxane + water solvent mixtures containing up to 90 wt % Dioxane, have been evaluated from the emf measurements of the cell Pt, H 2 (g, 1 atm); HBr (m), X % dioxANE, Y % water: AgBr, Ag at nine different temperatures in the range 15-55°C.
