Journal ArticleDOI
Cancer Stem Cells
TL;DR: This review describes cancer stem cells, a topic of considerable biologic and clinical interest in oncology.
Journal ArticleDOI
The interleukin-3 receptor alpha chain is a unique marker for human acute myelogenous leukemia stem cells
Craig T. Jordan,D Upchurch,Stephen J. Szilvassy,Monica L. Guzman,Dianna S. Howard,AL Pettigrew,Todd E. Meyerrose,Randall M. Rossi,Barry Grimes,David A. Rizzieri,Selina M. Luger,Gordon L. Phillips +11 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that CD123 represents a unique marker for primitive leukemic stem cells and it is proposed that targeting of CD123 may be a promising strategy for the preferential ablation of AML cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nuclear factor-κB is constitutively activated in primitive human acute myelogenous leukemia cells
Monica L. Guzman,Sarah J. Neering,Sarah J. Neering,Sarah J. Neering,Donna Upchurch,Donna Upchurch,Donna Upchurch,Barry Grimes,Barry Grimes,Barry Grimes,Dianna S. Howard,Dianna S. Howard,Dianna S. Howard,David A. Rizzieri,David A. Rizzieri,David A. Rizzieri,Selina M. Luger,Selina M. Luger,Selina M. Luger,Craig T. Jordan,Craig T. Jordan,Craig T. Jordan +21 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that primitive AML cells aberrantly express NF-kappaB and that the presence of this factor may provide unique opportunities to preferentially ablate LSCs.
Journal ArticleDOI
The sesquiterpene lactone parthenolide induces apoptosis of human acute myelogenous leukemia stem and progenitor cells
Monica L. Guzman,Randall M. Rossi,Randall M. Rossi,Lilliana Karnischky,Lilliana Karnischky,Xiaojie Li,Xiaojie Li,Derick R. Peterson,Derick R. Peterson,Dianna S. Howard,Dianna S. Howard,Craig T. Jordan,Craig T. Jordan +12 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the activity of PTL triggers LSC-specific apoptosis and as such represents a potentially important new class of drugs for L SC-targeted therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preferential induction of apoptosis for primary human leukemic stem cells
Monica L. Guzman,Carol Swiderski,Dianna S. Howard,Barry Grimes,Randall M. Rossi,Stephen J. Szilvassy,Craig T. Jordan +6 more
TL;DR: Comparison of normal and leukemic specimens using in vitro culture and in vivo xenotransplantation assays shows that the combination of these two agents induces rapid and extensive apoptosis of the LSC population while leaving normal HSCs viable.
