Do We Still Hurt Newborn Babies?: A Prospective Study of Procedural Pain and Analgesia in Neonates
Sinno H.P. Simons,Monique van Dijk,Kanwaljeet J. S. Anand,Daniëlla W. E. Roofthooft,Richard A. van Lingen,Dick Tibboel +5 more
TL;DR: It is estimated that most neonatal intensive care unit procedures are painful, but only a third of the neonates received appropriate analgesic therapy, and systematic approaches are required to reduce the occurrence of pain and to improve the analgesic treatment of repetitive pain in neonates.
Journal ArticleDOI
The reliability and validity of the COMFORT scale as a postoperative pain instrument in 0 to 3-year-old infants.
Monique van Dijk,Josien B de Boer,Hans M. Koot,Dick Tibboel,Jan Passchier,Hugo J. Duivenvoorden +5 more
TL;DR: Findings support the use of the COMFORT ‘behaviour’ scale to assess postoperative pain in neonates and infants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Routine morphine infusion in preterm newborns who received ventilatory support: a randomized controlled trial.
Sinno H.P. Simons,Monique van Dijk,Richard A. van Lingen,Daniëlla W. E. Roofthooft,Hugo J. Duivenvoorden,Niesje Jongeneel,Carin Bunkers,Enna Smink,Kanwaljeet J. S. Anand,John N. van den Anker,Dick Tibboel +10 more
TL;DR: Lack of a measurable analgesic effect and absence of a beneficial effect on poor neurologic outcome do not support the routine use of morphine infusions as a standard of care in preterm newborns who have received ventilatory support.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical recommendations for pain, sedation, withdrawal and delirium assessment in critically ill infants and children: an ESPNIC position statement for healthcare professionals
Julia Harris,Anne-Sylvie Ramelet,Monique van Dijk,Pavla Pokorná,Pavla Pokorná,Pavla Pokorná,Joke M. Wielenga,Lyvonne N Tume,Dick Tibboel,Erwin Ista +9 more
TL;DR: This multidisciplinary ESPNIC position statement guides professionals in the assessment and reassessment of the effectiveness of treatment interventions for pain, distress, inadequate sedation, withdrawal syndrome and delirium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of sedation levels in pediatric intensive care patients can be improved by using the COMFORT "behavior" scale.
TL;DR: The cutoff points of the COMFORT-B scale in conjunction with the Nurse Interpretation Score of Sedation facilitate the use of sedation algorithms on the pediatric intensive care unit and are a reliable alternative to the originalCOMFORT scale.
